I agree with the gist of your post.
LeBron's argument for GOAT status will have to be on numbers alone when it is all said and done. He may be the most physically gifted guy to ever play, but he doesn't have that level of domination that Jordan did.
His 'frick you' mode comes in spurts and it doesn't seem like something he can control. It seemed that Jordan could go to his 'frick you' mode at will.

You are aware that from 1975-1995 no high school player jumped to the NBA. It isn't that Jordan couldn't do it, when Jordan was coming out of high school EVERY great player went to college first.
In fairness to SFP's argument, I don't know of anybody that's ever claimed that MJ was pro ready right out of high school.
I could be wrong on that, though.

Id imagine that Dan Marino would be considered by alot of people to be one of the best qb's to play in the NFL.
I thought he said name the GOAT. Marino had a great career, but isn't in the conversation for GOAT.

I did. Dan Marino was one of the best, but he certainly isn't in the conversation for the best ever.

I just looked it up. Jordan averaged 13.5 as a freshman at UNC.

For another, saying that LeBron was a better pro than Jordan because Jordan wasn't a pro yet is kind of a silly (but self evident) argument which is why comparing NBA and not chronological years makes more sense.
If LeBron were to retire tomorrow, would you seriously argue his case as the GOAT simply because he entered the league at 18?
No! No one is arguing that! For the purposes of this thread, ignore those seasons altogether! The stats in the OP remain unchanged. No one is trying to use those seasons to give LeBron an advantage, the detractors are trying to use them to obscure the proper comparison.

That's subjective. A lot of people will disagree with you.

I don't think anyone ever really thought about it to be honest. But looking at his college highlights, I think he could have easily made it.

And a lot more will agree with me. We can play this game all day. The fact of the matter is that Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, John Elway, and several others are held in much higher regard than Dan Marino by a lot more people.
As far as just being a pure passer is concerned, Marino is probably in the discussion, but I think most people will give the edge to Manning.
When you factor in everything, Montana is considered by most to be the GOAT.

Regardless, the comparison to football is silly anyway. Using championships in football is beyond dumb. It's valid as a metric in basketball and I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise ITT.

Johnny Unitas
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady
Joe Montana
Roger Staubach
Brett Favre
John Elway
All better than Marino.

it only makes more sense if you presume that every year is at an equal developmental point, which is preposterous
LBJ from 18-21 (his first 2-3 years) don't really count for anything, based on the age-development arc. same for jordan...who spent those years in college. no matter who you are, those are developmental years. hell this argument only shifted with lebron, and ironically it's b/c he was so fricking awesome 18-21. everyone understood when discussing guys like kg and kobe that years in was terribly biased against their developmental years. of course a 21 year old is going to have a better rookie than an 18 year old, everything else being equal. that's why nobody gives kobe shite for his shitty first couple years

But but but...sfp says age > number of seasons. If you are going to do it by age, then at least eliminate the years 18-21 when Lebron got to accumulate these numbers and MJ did not.

ll the MJ lovers have this in their back pocket. As soon as LeBron wins his 6th championship, people will say that Jordan would have 8 if he didn't take off two years, or he would have more if he didn't go to college
How bout he gets number 3 and number 4 before we even begin the 6 rings talk
