this is from the other thread

it only makes more sense if you presume that every year is at an equal developmental point, which is preposterous
LBJ from 18-21 (his first 2-3 years) don't really count for anything, based on the age-development arc. same for jordan...who spent those years in college. no matter who you are, those are developmental years. hell this argument only shifted with lebron, and ironically it's b/c he was so fricking awesome 18-21. everyone understood when discussing guys like kg and kobe that years in was terribly biased against their developmental years. of course a 21 year old is going to have a better rookie than an 18 year old, everything else being equal. that's why nobody gives kobe shite for his shitty first couple years

I could care less about years played or age or any other numbers people want to throw around
Lebron James is not the greatest basketball player to ever play this game at this point in time on June 16, 2014
Of course his career is not over, but how bout he gets his 3rd and 4th ring before we seriously start debating this topic

i didn't claim he was, but he's in the argument with a small handful of others, and he's the best of his era

rings are team stats. until we get a better operational definition and use better objective criteria, this argument shouldn't be had

Bulls won 55 wins without MJ and with Pippen + Grant missing 22 games.
In 1993-94. Why are you ignoring the 1994-95 season, a season in which Jordan didn't play in until the final month of the regular season? The Bulls barely made the playoffs that year, finishing 47-35 on the year.

As LeBron proved in Cleveland, one player can make a difference on a basketball court. Not so much in any other sport. Rings count toward a basketball player's legacy more so than they do for a football player.

LBJ will wind up being top 5 maybe even number 2 all time but no matter what he does now he will never reach Jordans level. Sorry.
^This is just an asinine, fricktarded, simpleton statement. How do you even justify it? He could win 5 more titles, 4 more MVPs, break every record in the book, but dammit, you've got your mind made up.

every time I get really excited about Danny Ferry as Hawks GM, I remember he did this. hopefully those couple post-Cavs yrs back under Pop and RC have removed the stench of this.

Fair enough...and as a result, LeBron should get no extra credit for "carrying" Cleveland, nor should Jordan get criticized for what happened in a year where he never set foot on the court.
