This is just another way of saying contracts in the NFL aren’t fully guaranteed.
Players can hold out but there are penalties to do so.
Everything is collectively bargained. It’s 100% fair.

What? The players don’t have the leverage they think they do. Oh you’re going to sit out? Cool. You’ll get fined plus the longer you sit, the more this story goes away and the more your value is diminished. So you’re losing your value and you’re also being fined for being in breech of first contract you signed.
Players are emotional and stupid. The NFL and Cowboys brand aren’t going to take a hit if a few players sit out for a while. The only people that will get hurt are the players acting like children because they didn’t get $40 million a year instead of $34 million a year
