What about when the Bulls went 72-10 one year and won 6 championships in 8 years?

or the Celtics back in the 60s winning 9 of 10?

The issue in basketball is there are relatively few people on the floor and if you get the right 3 or four guys on a team you can dominate.

Do the "extra" teams make money? If so, the answer is no.

You think any of these leagues are really about anything else than making the owners money?

twice in the history of the NBA has a team won 25 straight games. its the exception not the rule and hardly a reason to start changing the foundation of the league.

The formation if the superfriends in Miami us the problem.

All the stars are going to force their way on to a few teams.

Sucks as a fan knowing your team has no chance unless a trio of 25 year old millionaires conspire to force their way into your team.

If you actually watch the NBA and not just the highlights, then most likely you aren't posting about contraction.

Ten years ago Miami, Denver, Memphis/Vancouver, Seattle/OKC, Warriors, Clippers and Hawks would've been prime contraction candidates. Teams like Sacramento, Hornets, Timberwolves, that would be great contraction candidates now were consistent playoff teams in the early part of the 00's. You may not win a title, but being a top 6-8 team in the league is definitely cyclical.

Since 2000 6 different teams have won the NBA finals, and 5 more teams have made the finals. In that same timeframe, 8 teams have won the super bowl, and 7 more teams made the superbowl without winning it.

So statistically NBA=20% of teams won titles/NFL=25% of teams win titles. NBA=37% of teams make the finals/ NFL= 47% of teams make the finals. Doesn't seem like that big a difference
