So what’s the deal with Penny AAU

Every AAU team is dirty. Penny's isn't really any dirtier than other elite teams.

Former Grizzly Mike Miller's little brother ran a pretty shady team for awhile.

I know all about the Metro and seen a lot of tape.

There were some great games with Louisville and even Virginia Tech when they had Del Curry (Steph's father)

Hell, even Tulane had some good teams until they got caught point shaving.

Thing is, this is on us.

I don't mind the Pastner hire. It didn't work out, it was a gamble, but the auto contract renewals we gave him were batshit insane. His last two years were extremely toxic here and I have thanked God every morning since April 2016 that Georgia Tech took him off our hands cheaply.

I thought the Tubby hire was conservative but the contract was again ridiculous.

We have legit T10 practice facilities and our fanbase has checked the frick out over the past four years of terribly mediocre teams. Something has to give.

If nothing else, Penny will be seen as a much needed good hire and butts will be back in the seats. We were T10 in attendance in 2014. We have averaged 6100 this year.

For some reason I thought Carolina was in the Metro

It was
Memphis
Louisville
Tulane
SLU
Cincinnati
Tech
Carolina

I don’t know why I keep thinking Carolina was in there? Guess because they were independent in football?

Yeah.

East Carolina was Colonial in non-football until they joined C-USA.

No South Carolina not East. In the 80’s I can swear watching Carolina play Memphis and Louisville in Metro games. Maybe I’m wrong.

South Carolina and Florida St were both Metro teams.

Metro did not have a football conference.

Penny needs to just take those kids at East with him and it’d be significantly better to anything they’ve had in years

Also, how in the hell does a random poster on TD know about the dirt in his team yet the NCAA or whatever association that governs that doesn’t know? I’m not doubting y’all, I just wonder how that happens...

A lot of AAU coaches are guys my age now and a lot of players are kids of guys a little older than me.

Getting ugly

Tubby comes out swinging

Claims Penny H is pushing his kids away from Memphis, while Penny is boasting to Memphis AD, that he could get them to Memphis.

quote:

With rumors continuing to swirl about the future of Memphis men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith, his longtime attorney on Friday questioned former Tigers star Penny Hardaway’s role in Smith’s inability to recruit Memphis area players during his two years on the job. “If you’ve got somebody that wants the job and they’re controlling most of the talent in the city, I’m not casting aspersions. I’ll let you draw conclusions,” Ricky Lefft said before the Tigers pulled off a dramatic win over Tulsa in the American Athletic Conference quarterfinals.

Gonna et ugly, Tubbys agent already said, they fire him, they are paying ALL of his money he's owed.
