Luka is a great offensive player but he will have to improve on the defensive side to be a truly elite capable of willing his team on both ends of the floor to a championship.

Kleber and Bullock are 0/15 with 0 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 fouls. If they hit 3-4 Dallas wins the game.

They couldn't even draw a freaking shooting foul. 64 minutes completely wasted.

Luka with yet another 40 point game. There's nothing bad I can say about him. He brings it every game.
But this team as currently built is not good enough to win a championship. Almost reminiscent of LeBron carrying those Cavs teams as far as he could in the playoffs every year.

All of this. But he also needs more help.
GSW has Curry, Klay, Wiggins, Green, and Poole.

Only one of those guys wasn’t drafted!

The point I'm making is he's a average defender at best. I never see him hustling and making plays on defense to make a big difference in the game. When the best player on the team is hustling and making steals and getting blocks or just slowing your man down it can be contagious for the whole team. He might need help too but he definitely need to improve on defense.

Or he just needs better teammates. Luka is a championship level player right now.

Eh he’s basically Harden

Warriors unlocking Wiggins potential has been a pretty cool story.
The announcers kept saying how incredible he’s been this postseason. They also showed he’s averaging like 15 ppg this postseason.

he ain’t that good… not to this point.

People who say this have no idea what the frick they are talking about. If Luka was on 2018 Houston that team easily wins title. Luka is more LeBron than Harden.

Nah they most likely still take that L

Luka getting dunked on and then flopping is harden….

Mavs tonight:
Luka on court: -19
Luka on bench: +10
Luka on court: -19
Luka on bench: +10

Harden is mentioned...Boom comes running
So you're saying that if Luka had stayed off the court, Dallas wins easily right?
I think +/- is a pretty useless stat. If Kleber, Finney Smith, Bullock don't miss 20 shots, Luka gets 7-8 more assists and all of a sudden he's positive. Rest of the team minus Luka was 9/40 from 3. They were getting looks...they were just terrible.

Didn't Luka lead the entire Phoenix series in steals? That's both teams, which have several DPOY candidates on it. Luka led the entire series in rebounds, which is part of defense...and part Dallas is real bad at. Luka draws charges in space in big moments because he's a smart defender.
It's true that he's not a wonderful on ball defender...he never will be. That's not his game. But you can't say he never makes plays on defense. I do 100% agree that he needs to get into a bit better shape so he can be more competitive outside against other quicker guards...but his size is also what makes him so effective getting to the rim and drawing contact/finishing.

I can’t decide if I’d rather Dallas use it’s resources to go after a guy like Goebert or Turner to protect the rim, or a off ball scorer like Mitchell or Lillard who are both rumored to want out this offseason.
I THINK Lillard or Mitchell gets you further in today’s NBA, but somehow Dallas has to find someone to defend the interior consistently. But rolling out Luka/Lillard/Dinwiddie in crunch time would be completely indefensible for any defense. and they have the big money expiring contracts to make it happen if they want, but they’d have to use all their resources on one move in that scenario.
If I trusted Brunson to play like this all the time and turn into a guy who breaks 20 PPG a couple times a week I might run with that and get a defender but it’s just not a big enough sample size.
