This was one of their worst seasons since the best CUSA programs left for the American.

It was odd they dumped Holliday like they did. I guess the fans felt only one conference title in 10 years was underachieving, but he appeared to run a solid program.
They were one of the worst teams in the country turning the ball over this season, and were bottom half in penalties. Hard to win a lot of games when you keep self-destructing.

This happens a lot in college football. Said coach builds a consistent winning program, fans start taking it for granted over the years and thinking they should be stacking conference titles, good coach is forced out the door
They typically are replaced by someone worse or who will bolt for greener pastures in a year or two

This is exactly what you want as a G5 program or mid to lower average P5 program.
Get a successful coach and let the money schools hire then away. If not performing well after 2-3 seasons, cut them loose.
Coaches have made their profession very transitory - only the USCs, Texas, Michigans, NDs, Bamas of the world have the power to have high paying, long term deals.

That’s the first person who came to mind
USM did go 11-1 and win a conference championship under Fedora before he shagged arse to UNC though
Since then they’ve had a few good years but other than that have been one of the worst programs in the FBS
