Have people who are crying race actually watched what happened? No doubt the guy said something disrespectful but Smart doesn't flip out until the guy puts his hand in his face. Say what you want, but Smart shouldn't have stepped to the fan, and I hate obnoxious fans.

Saying that it could be or probably had something to do with race isn't "crying race" especially when Smart said "he called me a ni***r"

I never hear any insults toward players (except very mild from the student section towards a star player). Most fans yell or boo refs then cheer their team. Taunting college kids is not acceptable when not in college yourself.
Not how it works down here.
When I was in high school, we had to have police escorts out of several gyms, and a couple of times we got an escort to the city/parish line.
As a high school we heard some pretty derogatory shite said to us, and come close to several physical alteractions and one actually developed into one between two fan bases.
People are insulting and they say insulting things to athletes of any level.

I've heard rumblings that this isn't a first 'incident' involving this same fan. I'm not sure when it was, but he apparently gave the universal 'up yours' sign at A&M at the end of the first half during a game between the two teams.

You have been arguing your point since it happened so I don't expect you to do an about face, but it just doesn't seem from watching it like that's what happened. I'm talking about fans around the guy. If he would have dropped an N bomb I think they would have reacted different. It just seems like a situation where Smart was really frustrated (he has been recently) and the shitty fan got under his skin. Can't react that way though.

The fact that Smart got up from the ground to go confront the crowd means that something was said
I don't know what he said when they were face to face, but I don't think Smart ran into the crowd for no reason

I don't see any reason why Smart would immediately start telling people that the dude dropped an n-bomb unless it's what happened. He could have misunderstood what he said, but we'll find out soon enouhg.
I just think it's stupid to say that "I'd be shocked if it involved race."

Sounds like a competitor to me.
Aren't sports supposed to develop character? Competing and being an arse are not mutually exclusive.
The Muhammad Ali school of sport has just imploded what high school and college athletics are about.

I wouldn't be shocked either, I just don't think it happened. The guy said something to piss him off but he doesn't push the guy until the guy puts his hand in his face. Don't really blame him for reacting after that but he was dumb for stepping to him.
Who disputes something was said?
Again, he was clearly frustrated and the dickhead said something that set him off. A racial slur seems like the convenient thing to say, but I don't think so.

I"m sure the guy is pretty used to trash talk at this point. It seems like whatever was said must have crossed the line whether racist or not

Who knows what the dude said. I just think fans should have more self control.
So should players. I don't think you suspend him for the rest of the season or anything particularly extreme but Smart's actions were no better.

I would bet a shite load of money that the n word wasn't said.

What makes you so sure if that?

ESPN's front page has Pushgate on it, and they're acting like he murdered the guy.

All I know is that ESPN knows what they're talking about for the next 3 weeks

Playing the odds. I think it's pretty easy to see where those odds lie. Doesn't mean I'm going to end up right, but if I was looking at this as a betting man, it is a no brainer.
I mean really, when was the last time the n word was thrown at an athlete and they heard it/reacted to it? Anyone know, because there is one thing you can't say to a black athlete and get away with it.

Im a mild mannered guy to the fullest, but my competitive spirit always shined through. With that being said, I played basketball, baseball and football from 5years to 18 or so.
I only lost my cool twice, over hundreds of games, And that was 2 basketball games. It was with other players, not fans, but i still think it is the easiest sport to get your jimmies rustled.

I agree because basketball is a game where the Level of physicality allowed isn't well defined and you have ample opportunity to chatter. Lethal combo
Plus, fans are real close, so things involving them are easier as well. Malice at the Palace has a hard time happening in other sports.

STill in any sport, I hate the way fans can get away with anything they please. To the core, they are still human beings. Players shouldnt be held to a higher standard than fans. If you're going to insult me as a man, you better be ready to face the repercussions. Being a "fan" shouldnt save you from getting your arse kicked.
