Not a requirement. But it's pretty weak and childish to do and I would argue ultimately a divisive gesture. It was somewhat newsworthy and petty when Manny Ramirez did it to Bush 10 years ago, now it's supposed to be accepted to just do this for presidents you don't agree with?

It was barely a footnote in the news when Brady skipped out on it last year, or when he skipped it while Obama was in office. I don’t see how making a personal decision is a childish thing to do. You’re skipping out on a wildly useless and pointless ceremony. And I’m sure a good portion of the team didn’t want to go simply to avoid the controversy around
The whole issue and didn’t expect this to turn into a circus.
