I just always find it odd when supposed people on the right pick and choose when they're ok with nanny government and use strawman positions like this to justify it

No, a true right wing conservative would move to ban gambling.

I have no issue taxing vices that only hurt people. This is how you incentivize people.

People say you can’t legislate morality. That’s stupid double speak. Laws by definition are legislated morality. The only question is whose morality.

Not a fan of gambling. There are no winners and it’s a net drain on our society.

So I’m okay with it

Where do you stand on alcohol? Should we ban that too?

I have zero sympathy for out of state gambling corporations that provide nothing for the state aside from taking stupid people's money.

I didn’t say we should ban gambling. We already have hefty Sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco. That’s why I don’t care about a tax on gambling.

They'll all just close up shop and all the money it was bringing in will become minimum at best

Wrong. App based betting doesn't have a huge incremental cost per user. The apps are already built and used in other states. There might be an increase in customer support needs to service the additional state, but not a huge lift. If they need to increase revenue/decrease cost to cover the additional tax, they will pass it along to the consumer by increasing the moneyline gaps between bets. Instead of a toss-up bet being -110 on both sides, they will be -120.

In addition, the bill aims to put a halt to operators offering promotional credits to players.

…credits can be deducted from Louisiana licensees’ tax calculations.

This deduction needs to end.

Also, Is it really putting an end to offering promotional credits or just ending them being tax deductions?
