Lincoln Riley is 35-18 in his first 53 games at USC.
Clay Helton was 35-18 in his first 53 games at USC.
Riley is a snake oil salesman and always has been. OU fans lucked out when he slinked away. I have zero tears for him because he tried to destroy the program on the way out. Lots of scuttlebutt he was intentionally calling failing plays that last season from mid point in. Things like having 3 WRs go deep but all 3 in same spot knowing Oline couldn’t hold and would allow defense to easily defend.
Anyways, I will always enjoy his failures. He is a spoiled adult brat. Bob Stoops gave him everything. Support but also a title ready team. He pissed it away. Then he ran away. Its the one mistake Bob made and we all know he regrets it now.
At 10 sec mark watch the synchronized diving by 2 USC players lol. This whole play has LR imprint all over it. First guy missed tackle. 2 keystone cops diving in unison but not even touching runner. 4th guy only needs to push him out and fails. Not to dismiss 2 players who jogged and never ran who could have pushed him out along with the last tackle attempter. If you look at the end you see them just jogging.

The new CFB model is to “BUY” success. In reality there will be a few this actually works for & MANY failures while gifting out generational wealth…both players & coaches. It’s crazy.
So you think the people that put their body on the line to generate said wealth shouldn't be compensated? Certainly, the model needs more guardrails. However, you still have to build a good culture to win it all.

USC is the one BIG 10 teams that I wanted to lose. They think they're back with the #1 class that took 40 recruits lol. That's called a reset.

With the tools he has to recruit
I know USC backed up the truck for the DL from Aug but do they really have a well oiled NIL machine. The LA tools they used to be able to leverage are not nearly as big as they once were.

After that 2017 season I thought Riley was abotu to be the new face of CFB for the next 15 years. It's incredible the trajectory his career has gone since his debut.

They have leverage beyond raw cash. Among their trustees, alumni and donors are George Lucas, Stevem Spielberg, Ron Howard Dr Dre, Jimmy Iovine, Brian Grazer, Judd Apatow, Robert Zemeckis and more.
Many recruits also have dreams of being a rapper or acting. USC can make that happen the day they hit campus.

No new coach has ever had such an easy time. Bob handed him a title team. Had Bob stayed there is no doubt in my mimd we win it all that year.
But the problem that Bob left him was Mike Stoops. Riley should let him go but likely felt indebted to Bob and it cost us.
Then every year he got worse. He’s a great offensive/qb guy but not a good HC.
Not even counting the D lapse on last play, he had first and goal at 2. And he had no idea how to score a TD. And then just like Georgia game he kicked a FG and I knew then he lost. But it was his first 3 plays that failed.
At some point they will get tired of him. But his contract is so large plus I think they gave him or let him use that large house in beach costing millions more.
He is who he is at this point.

I may be way off but a lot of the people you listed don't care much about football or have not put a ton of effort into it the program. The "go to USC and be in showbizness" line is old. I may be totally off but that doesn't seem to happen.

They do not have to be huge fans to be asked to do a favor for the school.

Seeing them give up a 3rd and 20 was all too familiar we are SO lucky he left. I HATE TCU but that was fun seeing them win that game.

This is awesome, TCU roasting Riley. And his famous burnt brisket at end.
