LHSAA Eligibility question

I've skimmed through the handbook, but can't find this situation. = This student is entering the 9th grade. The high school that his middle school feeds that's also in his attendance zone, does not have football. He is allowed to attend a nearby high school that does. He was able to enroll without a problem, but the school says he is ineligible for one year. Is he eligible to compete in freshman/JV games only? Varsity? or neither?

I've heard that any freshman enrolling in a new school will be eligible for varsity starting this year. I may be wrong though.
ETA:
To answer your question, even if the rule hasnt changed he would be eligible to play both freshman and JV just not varsity.

You will need to seek a written ruling on the student through his school – if the student is ineligible he would be ineligible at all levels of play.

Not true, JH he would be eligible, but not JV.
This is a weird situation though, and I know in the past the LHSAA hasn't looked kindly on going to a school for sports related reasons. Not sure if the school not having a football team matters to them.

A friend's son transferred from a private school to a public school last year and was ruled ineligible for all sports his freshman year. Lived in public's school zone entire life.

How do you transfer your freshman year? You aren't in HS yet. Now if he played at the varsity level as an 8th grader at the private school, he would be ineligible most likely because he was already a varsity athlete.

Went from private 8th grade year to public freshman year. LHSAA said no sports 1 calendar year

It was a C school so he probably dressed with baseball but doubtful he played.

I am not doubting you but this is crazy if true.

Never heard of that, got to be something else. I know plenty of athletes that switch over at HS and have no issues. I bet he had some mop-up duty at the varsity level.

JH sports aren't, but JH athletes playing at the varsity level are.
