It’s not a Ponzi scheme. Walter got loans from his Life Insurance companies to buy sports franchises. He flipped the Lakers for 2.5 billion profit by doing this. Now, it’s not legal for a life insurance company to have a non-diversified portfolio like this (where so much of their investments are tied up in loans to one person), but nothing is gonna happen.

A Ponzi scheme relies on new investors to pay old investors. No money is really invested it’s all fraud.

What Walter did by loaning himself money from his life insurance businesses to buy sports franchises are legit investments. The loan originators (the life insurance companies) will be paid back. Walter’s only issue is that it’s against the law for life insurance companies to have non-diversified portfolios because it’s puts their policy holders at risk.
