I'm not mad, but I find it annoying that he's such a massive hypocrite. He refused to take a stand when it came to something that would harm him financially (China and Hong Kong) but decides to lecture when his money ISN'T on the line.

Ultimately you cannot take a man seriously if they are bought and paid for by a murderous regime.

I'm assuming you talked to LeBron about that, right? I mean how would you know that it wasn't to be taken literally?

Hyperbole has been a literary device used in American discourse for a very long time now. That is why we say things like "Steph Curry can shoot from anywhere on the court" even though we know Steph pulling up from 90 feet away would generally be a bad shot. When we say things like that it is only intended for added emphasis. LeBron's statement does sound absurd if you incorrectly decide to evaluate it from a literal standpoint. But anyone with any sense would recognize that it is not intended to be a literal statement.

Is absolutely nothing like

quote:

We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes! Can’t even go for a damn jog man! Like WTF man are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? No man fr ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!

If you actually believe that, I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps you need some of that "sense" you are talking about.

He knew what he was doing when he said it. It's quite clear.

Comparing someone shooting a ball versus "We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes!" is quite a stretch.

Call it whatever you want, you are not going to change your mind about it.

To me, it's typical excuse making for someone who said something ridiculously stupid. What good comes out of his statement? Explain that.

One is a statement that no one believes is possible

The other is a statement that a lot of people actually think is true.

When one is said, no one takes it seriously because everyone knows the person saying it doesn’t mean it. The other could be interpreted as serious because there are actually people that believe it’s true.

You really believe that there are people who think that every single black person in America (over 40 million) is accosted literally 100% of the time they leave the house? So you think that you personally could tell that this isnt true but many people around the country wouldnt be able to tell it isnt either? You think you are that much smarter than the rest of the country? And if you really do think that the country is that dumb how worried were you when President Drumpf suggested people inject disinfectant to kill COVID?

And you lost any shred of credibility you may have had right there.

You may want to quit while you are behind, you sure aren't going to get ahead.

Again, explain why his ridiculously stupid statement was necessary. Nothing more than something to fan the flames.

If you can't see that...

I know for 100% fact there are people that think White people are out to get Black people. That cops are just looking for reasons to shoot black people etc. Lebron’s comment plays into that.

quote:

So you think that you personally could tell that this isnt true but many people around the country wouldnt be able to tell it isnt either?

Yes

quote:

The whole country? No. A portion of the country? Absolutely. There are a lot of stupid people in this country. Do you not recognize that?

quote:

And if you really do think that the country is that dumb how worried were you when President Drumpf suggested people inject disinfectant to kill COVID?

This is exactly like the comparison you just made with the “Steph Curry can make it from anywhere in the court” to Lebron’s tweet.

My question to you would be did you criticize Trump for saying that? Do you not hold Lebron to the same standard? Why do you hold Lebron to a lower standard?

Trump is openly criticized for saying stupid shite. I myself think he says stupid shite and openly say he says stupid shite. No one has a problem when I say Trump says stupid shite. But I’m not allowed to say Lebron says stupid shite.

You can plug in any athlete, singer, actor, etc into this statement.

Just because you have the ability to put a message out there doesn't mean that message is correct or even necessary. What I wonder is what was his reasoning for saying what he said. Still can't get an answer on that.

This was simply done to cause outrage and fan the flames.

you are out of line here to be defending such a reckless and patently false statement by LeBron

LeBron was incredibly reckless and hyperbolic to say what he said, particularly since he's a public figure with major pull, because

quote:

While undoubtedbly hyperbolic, the statement is nowhere near the truth and only moves to assist the paranoia and reactions black men have to certain situations involving the police (since this issues is being lumped in) – turning simple investigatory situations into confrontations.

LeBron's statement doesn't solve anything, it only makes the problem worse.

his hashtag #ProfiledBecauseWereBlack is also reckless because, even though this tragedy heavily implicates race and appears almost out of a John Grisham novel, there's no evidence that conclusively establishes they pursued him simply because he was black. I'm not defending those two's actions because they're indefensible but posting a hashtag like that as a public figure ensures to deepen divisions if it's only based off an assumption and not verified fact.

To be fair, though LeBron destroyed his credibility with his fake graffiti hate crime then compared himself to Emmitt Till and now bending the knee to China while slave children make his shoes,

quote:

But i understand his frustration and anger. Failing to understand that sentiment and pain is exacerbated by those who dismiss it outright.

This sums it up pretty accurately and points the finger at both parties.

This is a great read and really puts the whole situation in its proper perspective

Lebron isn’t dumb. I don’t agree with him but doesn’t make him dumb. It also cheapens the argument against him when you make those kind of statements.

Fair point. When someone makes outrageous comments like he did, it doesn't make them look smart.

No reason for him to say what he said.

What purpose does it serve?
