What's up with McNeese's RPI? I'm just noticing that they currently sit at #17

I know it's kind of a fluky ratings system sometimes (nothing against the Cowboys), but anybody care to enlighten me?

4 games against the #2 RPI.
No losses versus the RPI 101+.
Worst loss to #87 RPI team.
Wins against #14, #18, and #34 RPI teams.

There are also only 9 games on the schedule against teams with losing records. SOS, opponent's records, and opponent's opponent's records all play into RPI.

The Southland is a really good baseball league. Has been for a while. I'm rooting for Mcneese to host a regional. Not out of the question if they finish out with only a handful of losses.

Like I said before (and got jumped on for it), I doubt they would host, but there is a slight chance. Yeah, if they win some of those midweek games, pretty much sweep the rest of the conference slate, AND win the conference tournament, I think there is a slim chance.

They won't host. If they worked their way up to a 1 seed, they would just be a 1 seed at someone else's park

Why couldn't they host in Lake Charles?

Only reason I see that they wouldn't host is if they don't submit a bid.

Unless you are aware of some reason that they couldn't host. From the bid packets I've seen, I can't imagine they wouldn't at least be able to host.

I would love for the Cajuns to be sent to Lake Charles as a 3 seed.

UCLA lists their capacity as 1,820. The most McNeese ever got in to their stadium was a little over 2,000 versus LSU during the Skip Bertman years. They're comparable in size.

I've been to Jackie Robinson field to see a few games. TRUST me, it is smaller.

I didn't they say they couldn't. I said they wouldn't.

It would be a ton of lost revenue for the NCAA with the lack of seating, plus they'd probably have to bring in extra lighting, temporary stands, and somehow make room for an ESPN crew.

McNeese isn't UCLA, they don't get the benefit of the doubt for a small crappy ballpark.

Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara both hosted regionals in the last 5 years.

Try again.

You can argue that Cal Poly is higher profile, but UC Santa Barbara has a stadium half the size of McNeese and hosted.

McNeese's press box has room for like six people.

This makes a hell of a lot more sense than some BS about ballpark size, temporary seating, and lighting.

Can't increase the size of the press box.

That's probably why they hosted in Lake Elsinore, CA. Three hours away from their campus.

Read the post again dipshit. I mentioned they have no room for an ESPN crew. If you honestly think that ballpark size, lighting, and temporary seating doesn't factor in, I don't know what to tell you... especially when there will be innumerable facilities that could host within a bus ride's distance.

Add to the fact that your counterpoint doesn't make sense because the NCAA has been historically kinder to West Coast teams just for the sake of having enough hosts on the W.C.

Also add to the fact that Coastal Carolina finished with an RPI around 15 last year with a much bigger and nicer ballpark than McNeese State's and were still sent to Raleigh as a 2 seed and I'm telling you that the Cowboys will not host.

Touche.

Regardless, other schools have hosted at small venues. If pressboxes are not large enough, it's one thing. But size of the ballpark has nothing to do with it.

It's all a moot point anyway. I doubt McNeese ends up a 1 seed. Too much has to go right for them and wrong for others. The only team projected to host right now with a lower RPI than McNeese is Long Beach State, and they were higher a week ago, and could still finish higher than McNeese.
