I don't see the issue. Both are using the tools in their arsenal.

Think that's all Coach K is telling them. And he's not wrong
Except for the fact that none of these kids are getting a degree from either of them

While true, that's probably a conversation that applies more to those scoring 1450+ on the SAT and those placing in the Math Olympiad than on future one and done players.

How old are you? I made a 1730 on the SAT. Which is mediocre.

I'm old but that's irrelevant because we're back to the 1600 scale, homey.

It sounds to me like Krzyzewski was just pointing towards Duke's excellent academics as a plus for kids who hoped to someday graduate. And, you know, maybe win a championship in the process.
I'm no Duke fan, far from it, but that's the way I read it. Duke prepares you for life whether or not basketball is a part of your future.

None of these kids deciding between the two give a shite about that stuff. They want to be there for a year or two then go to the NBA. This isn't a CFB pitch where the kid has to be there for 3 years or more.
That is 100% false. I know by the player saying himself that choosing Duke was bc "I can't play ball until I die."

Cool and I am sure those entry level generic classes really prepared him for the rest of his life

Believe what you want but some of them want "to play school" too.
Posted on 5/9/16 at 7:19 pm to RTR America
A big part of it is that I'm sure there are a lot of Duke alums in very important positions across the country who would be happy to find a job for a former Duke Basketball player should the NBA not work out.

These kids would go play for K if he was coaching at the worst school in D1 basketball

c'mon ... duke bball players are getting sociology or business degrees, same as every other DI bball player in the country ... yeah, a duke degree is more marketable, but people need to quit acting as though the academics for duke athletes are in a different stratosphere ... everybody's part of the same hypocrisy ...

That's what I figured, I was a mediocre at best student.
Posted on 5/9/16 at 7:27 pm to Sellecks Moustache
So, you a Duke grad?
Posted on 5/9/16 at 7:29 pm to someoldhussy
LOL, you act like kids that go to UK would not have connections. UK has the Cawood Ledford scholarship for former UK basketball players to return to school and pursue their undergrad degree if the come back.

Some of them but to act like a degree from a great school isn't important to some of them is foolish.
"No one in my family has ever graduated from college. A degree from Duke would be a pretty good start."
