I find it amusing that the man did far more good in life than anyone in this thread will likely do, yet all anyone cares about is his failures.

how is it amusing? Doing good deeds doesn't grant you forgiveness or any type of pass for what he did

I think it is the opposite .. Joe Pa's defenders are the younger, 20-something generation .. just look at the PSU campus .. the irony is that most of these people never really experienced his glory years as HC .. this group also has no children yet for the most part and can't wrap their minds around how vile and evil this whole ordeal is ..

The older, 40-plus generation has kids, are disgusted .. and also pissed that a person they grew up admiring turned out to be less than mortal in the end ..

I think he changed a few details once public scrutiny started coming down on him for his inaction that night.

who hasn't found themselves in a situation where you're wrestling a young boy in a shower and you accidentally grab his genitals?

Honestly, it is somewhat amazing to me how everyone "knows" Paterno didn't do more because he wanted to win more football games. Why did he report it at all? Along with many people, I think he did not do enough and deserved to lose his job. I also think that it is pretty difficult to know his motives (or others motives who had knowledge of Sandusky's acts). It would be great if everyone took all of the appropriate actions when they saw evidence of wrong doing, but that doesn't happen in a lot of cases. It would also be great if everyone held themselves to the same standard they seem to hold other people, but unfortunately that doesnt happen either.

And I also want to simply point out the irony of you having Kobe Bryant as an avatar while making the quoted statement. Paterno never paid a settlement for sexually assaulting someone. While you may "know" Kobe Bryant is completely innocent and "know" that Paterno participated in a coverup while having extensive knowledge of Sandusky's action, I think there are a lot of unanswered questions in both cases.

/thread in my opinion.

So the guy who change his story once he thought he may be at fault is the guy I'm getting my 100% facts of this from?

Also why didn't the guy who saw it continue to go to the police to bring this to justice? Guess he is a child rapist too and should rot in hell

Mcqueary has faced some pretty heavy scrutiny, I don't think he's gotten a pass at all. The guy's coaching career is probably pretty much over now.

Paterno catches the most flack because he's the guy at the head of the table and the most visible figure. That's what tends to happen in most major scandals, not sure why that confuses you.

I'm not calling either guy a child rapist or condemning them to hell and never have. I have very little respect for either of them though.

I'm not saying you were, just people in general. This thread just continues to show why I find people's reactions to death of people they don't know to be completely hilarious

Interesting since most of the discussion has been more about while he was alive.
