You sound like what I've been trying to point out to saints fans who think we can build some awesome defense. You cant have it both ways with a salary cap. If you have a powerhouse offense/defense accept the fact that the other side of the ball wont be great without getting lucky on some draft picks or low priced FA's.
I accept that the saints have an almost unstoppable offense and a defense that needs work

first two super bowls under Johnson...
I'm not sure what the ranks of those offenses and defenses are. but their O was loaded and their defenses were pretty good...

actually the 1st season was 94. so this does not count

Chargers were 1st in total offense and defense last year. Saints were 4th in defense and 6th in offense. Atlanta had the 5th scoring defense and scoring offense last year.
