Damnnnnnn Ever seen a dude jump so high during a dunk that he injured his face on the rim???

Well, now ya have ... 'cause NBA draft prospect Jericho Sims did just that Tuesday night -- and video of the scene is absolutely WILD!!! Sims was warming up to try to put on a show for scouts at this week's Klutch Sports Pro Day ... when he elevated so high for a dunk, his eye came down and scraped the rim.

Check out the footage, the 22-year-old former Texas Longhorns star was a legit FOOT above the goal before his head came crashing down on the iron ... and he had to wipe away at his face afterward to try to stop the pain.

Don't worry ... Sims ended up being just fine -- and he went on to prove to NBA execs throughout the evening his hops are seriously no joke.
quote:

The 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward -- who averaged 9.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a senior in 2021 -- was not initially thought to be a potential first-round pick later this month ... but he's shown so much athleticism in pre-draft workouts, pundits are now rethinking that idea.
Ridiculous

I guess I am in the minority but seeing a 6'10 dude dunk just doesn't seem all that impressive to me. if the dudes arms are three feet long(and they are probably much longer), he can literally dunk jumping a few inches. To hit his eye he has to jump 36ish which isn't really that impressive either in pro athlete terms. Not saying he isn't athletic, just that it's not that wild or impressive. More like an accident that many other NBA guys could have had happen.

A 6'10" guy who can jump 36 inches is indeed impressive.

You do understand that when you get that big it is harder to be as explosive?

9 points and 7 rebounds as a 22 year old senior? Who cares if he can jump high, he doesn’t sound like a first round pick.

I do understand that however, If I wasn't lazy, I could compile you a list of over 20 dudes close or at his height in the NBA with 36 inch verts. It's not that uncommon anymore. Not hating on Sims because I do not know who he is, just saying this isn't 2000. It's pretty common now days(NBA common).

Well for one Sims vertical is closer to the mid 40s than 36.

And maybe it is more common than it used to be but it's not exactly common still.

Ayton, Hayes, etc make 36 look like child's play.
But then again Kevin Durant has like a 33 inch vert.

Edit - only vert I can actually find from hayes was a 35.

Wasn’t Zion doing shite like this once a week at Duke? I think I remember him hitting his head on the rim while blocking a shot

I understand that. But he’s a 22 year old senior. He’s not a 19 year old freshman. He’s gonna be 23 in October.

I understand that. I was using it as a base of what his vert would need to be to hit his eye. If it's mid 40's that is an impressive vert, but even less impressive injury.

I like how people are acting like this happens all the time

If we saw it all the time, no one would be talking about this.

1) Since he would need to jump 38 inches to get the top of his head to the rim, to hit his eye on the way down would be closer to 44 inches. His max vert at the combine was 44.5.

2) The reason it doesn’t happen to many players is because it can’t. Pretty straightforward. He’s near or at the absolute max of players in terms of height + vertical in the league today. That doesn’t have to impress you, but it’s certainly rare ability

You can't really compare combine testing conditions to a full running start and such.
