no one has. You can maybe argue steph season two years ago. But even the goat mike himself never had a season like this.
As great as Harden's regular season stats are, even record-breaking in many respects, I will not consider him a truly great player until he duplicates that regular season performance in the playoffs and leads his team to wins in games with high-stakes. Game 6 two years ago against the Kawhi-less Spurs is a VERY DAMNING piece of evidence against Harden's legacy to this point, Game 7 last year he shouldn't have jacked up all those 3s without a prayer of them converting as he wasn't on in that area so to speak. In my estimation, he'll only be able to overcome that stigma with a couple of championships with him as alpha, preferably a repeat and I don't think I'm being arbitrary by requiring that. For example, Magic Johnson overcame the Tragic Johnson chokejob of 1984 by avenging that loss the subsequent season and clinching the title at Boston Garden and winning 2 more titles after that. Isiah Thomas overcame The Steal against Larry Bird by beating the Celtics then repeating as champ, etc. There's precedent for my assessment of someone's legacy in that regard.

I don’t think people are ready to accept where harden will be on the all time list once he gets his finals mvp this year. It will be the greatest series win in league history. By a player with back to back MVP. Should be three straight. And four top 2 MVP in 5 years. at that point he will be top 15 all time won’t he. With lots more years to move up.

Harden won’t be the MVP and he’s never play in the NBA Finals again.

I think Harden has passed Kobe by, but the fact his crowning playoff achievement is losing in the WCF (blowing a 3-2 lead with home court at that) to a top 4 all time team, and literally nothing else of note, makes that a hard argument to make to the ringz crowd
He’s an 81 game guy, not a 16 game guy, and that matters.

He’s a mediocre shooter in a system offense that made Steve Nash look like John Stockton.

harden wasn’t himself in that game 6

I think a lot of time the casual fan has a skewed memory. And they don’t remember what happened, only what they want to have happened. Harden has some of his best games ever in elimination games. Well his best games before this year bc what he is doing this year no one ever has done.

He’s second in the nba in steals per game and has the third most blocks per game of any guard. He’s been playing defense all year
Steals and blocks do not equal good defense all of the time. Westbrook and Steph get steals and they are by no means good defenders. Lebron gets chase down blocks but he has not played actual good defense since the Heat days

No, but when combined with other statistics like him being one of the best post defenders in the league and a 70th percentile on-ball defender, steals and blocks add to the picture.

And that’s fine, was just saying steals and blocks never show the whole picture

I love the hyper casual NBA fan who makes rockets - suns comparison because they have the same coach even though they run completely different offenses.

I never said the offenses were the exact same, but Coach Stache definitely has a system that jacks up point guard’s numbers and emphasizes 3s.
And I’m betting that without even looking, the Rockets play at a similar if not faster pace than those Suns did, and don’t come at me with some bullshite about their league rank.

Seven seconds or less v the team who takes the most late clock shots of any squad. a teams pace is only one half their offensive pace and one half the opposing teams offensive pace. So your novice level comparison is flawed big time as usual.
Let b give you an example since you couldn’t figure it out On your own.
Team A take every shot with zero second left on the clock. Team B takes every shot with 20 seconds left on the clock. That average possession will be 14 seconds.
Ok not let’s say team a take a shot with 10 seconds left on the clock and team b takes a shoot with 10 second left on the clock. Obviously that average possession will also be 14 seconds. 24 seconds - 10 seconds.
Clearly you can see that just bc the pace is the same that doesn’t mean anything when we are looking at the pace the one specific team plays on offense. Bc the team could shoot with 20 seconds, 10 seconds, or 0 seconds and still have the same “pace”.
Class dismissed.

Nobody is more accurate at picking his own team.
