I've been saying all winter this is a bad group. Maybe that ups our chances of a triple crown.

We almost got a triple crown from Smarty Jones. That's what happens. I'd love to see it, but again, I feel like I should be more impressed with the ease that Chrome won yesterday. I just can't see him winning it.

A headwind coming down the stretch would definitely explain the final quarter somewhat. I do recall the neck passes fluttering about pretty good when they were interviewing people on the walkover, so I wouldn't doubt it was present.

As far as Chrome getting tired, I also wouldn't doubt it. All horses are going to be tired at the end of a mile and a quarter race against 18 other horses early in their 3 year old year. You just aren't used to trainers actually admitting it. Just like Sherman admitted that Chrome didn't eat all his dinner. Most trainers with the glare of the spotlight just give pat answers and say everything is perfect. Sherman also admitted that the San Felipe took something out of him initially, but he bounced back pretty quickly.

Look Chrome will be going in the Preakness unless he is lame. However, I think you will be able to tell exactly how well or poorly he is training and how tired he is by just watching what Sherman does with the training regardless of what he is saying. At least he has plenty of foundation underneath him from a decent racing career so far. He didn't have his best race at CD, and no one was able to make him sweat.

And I haven't seen any colt is this crop display anything close to that turn of foot has had consistently in every race he has run this Spring. At least he is very good at cornering. That should help him immensely at Pimlico.

Well I was way wrong this year. California Chrome may win it due to not really a strong class. But if he does win it, he deserves it.

His acceleration at the head of the lane is something else and Victor handles it well. I feel like I'm watching him ride War Emblem all over again.

I'm still pissed. Before the positions came out I had commanding as my 2 or 3. Then I started researching every site possible and it turned me off of him. I had him in the two spot in only one trifecta. Shouldve stuck with my gut. 20k right out my hands

Never research too much; it is still just a horse race. I will say many years into my horse betting education, I discovered the $1 4-horse trifecta box. I have never bet anything else since. It is basically a $24 dollar bet that, if you get it right, will almost always pay in the low hundreds at worst even filled mostly with the top horses in the field, especially on a day like the Derby where the odds are all sorts of wonky due to so much uninformed money and large fields.

typically i don't overthink it. I've one some decent money during the three big races over the past five years, but this year my schedule got all screwed up. I had to put my picks in on Friday instead of Saturday and i was just off my game. I screwed myself.

My heart is still broken that Real Quiet missed by 4 inches.
Kent moved him out too fast and he still almost had enough.

I was only a casual racing fan before '98, but after coming so close to seeing it happen. I can't help but get pumped every May. It's gonna happen in my lifetime, and I'm indifferent as to whether the winner is the best horse ever against the best competition ever.... or just the best horse in that particular year.

Because I watch for the Triple Crown, The Preakness is my favorite.
I usually only watch the Derby to see which horse I'm gonna be pulling for in the Preakness, and The Belmont is only important if it wins.

Chrome reminds me alot of Real Quiet....
I can see him going sub 1:55 if there's pressure from the field. As long as he doesn't get a terrible trip, we'll see if he can hold off the closers in the Belmont.

I always over think it and over thought curve's way right on put of my exacta. Watched his work multiple times and didn't like all the lead swapping.

Curve is out of the Preakness and will gear up for the Belmont.

Considering or IN for the Preakness:
California Chrome
Danza
Ride on Curlin
Dynamic Impact
Bayern
Pablo Del Monte
Kid Cruz
Ring Weekend
Social Inclusion

Might be missing a few more.

Danza had a rough trip at CDs.
He could be the spoiler this year.

He also caused others a very rough trip.

Just wanted to say that I still hate him.

Not for me. It's a bet. They could have turtles out there. As long as they have the large pool of "once a yearers" throwing out foolish money, I will ALWAYS use a larger portion of my available funds for this race.

More value for the same $1500 I would be using on a 10k claimer a month from now. Just gotta get lucky and find your commanding curve

Poor Ria Antonia is switching trainers again and her idiot owner is running her in the Preakness.

I like her with Tom Amoss, but he's not going to have time to really do anything for her.

She helped me make a ton of $ at bc, but she just ran 7th in the oaks. Preakness?? Really??

Yeah I'm surprised by that move. Scared of Untapable at the Acorn Stakes or what?

Yeah, but still. Poor thing getting shuffled around like crazy. Find an easier spot and get her a win or you'll ruin her.

She might not want to run after the Preakness because her confidence could be shot. I dont like the move.

But I'm very excited for the Preakness. It is one of my favorite tracks.

Borel got booted by the connections of Ride on Curlin. I knew that was coming after that terrible ride.

Listening to the interviews in seemed like Calvin did his on thing and did not even listen to the trainer. Why would he do that ? Is that common with jockeys and trainers?

“Hopefully, he’ll listen to me,” Gowan said of Rosario. “Most of them don’t want to listen to you, they know best. If he listens to what I tell him, we’ll win the Preakness.”

Gowan said he told Borel to break good and get some position. “He was six lengths off the last horse in a half in 48,” Gowan said. “I wanted to throw up when they came by me the first time. I didn’t tell him to take a left-hand turn coming out of there.”

Yeah I was kind of expecting this.
