Oh this is a major problem moving forward.

There was a "this is the scientific progress" argument but they relied on an authoritarian "argument from authority" instead. When you do the latter you better be right, and many proclamations (and regulations) weren't correct. They refuse to eat crow because they went with the wrong argument.
