No, I'm not kidding. Jack Nicklaus could not out-drive Tiger with any clubs.

Jack would destroy the field with today's equipment.

Jack is still the GOAT, but this is just false.

Today's equipment is much more forgiving and therefore limits the advantages of great ball strikers.

disagree ... golfers still play a predominantly blade club for a reason ... it identifies their mishits ... drivers are more forgiving than back in the day, but irons, not so much ... jack was one of the longest drivers on tour his entire life, and almost as accurate as he was long ... he'd have the same advantage now that he did then ... much longer and straighter, combined, than anyone out there ...

based on what evidence? ...

jack could regularly hit it 300+ with a persimmon wood and a ball softer than a ripe banana ...

many years ago, golf digest ran an article that compared tiger's club selections in '97 to jack's club selections in '67 ... at the masters ... very little difference ... sometimes jack hit a longer club, sometimes tiger hit a longer club ... this is before augusta changed the yardages ... their equipment was night and day different, though ... jack hit a driver and 8-iron to #15 ... a 340 yd drive with a soft 8 iron ...

He won the long drive competition at the 1963 PGA with a drive of over 341 yeards which would have won the PGA long driving competition in 2014 using a persimmon driver and a 1963 technology golf ball. If you don't think Nicklaus in his prime could hit it as far as Tiger you are out of your mind.

That chart is comparing a 46 year old to a 29 year old.

And Tiger has hit the ball 425 yards on tour... 84 yards further.

What's your point?

dude, they've performed tests to see the difference twixt metal and persimmon ... it's 20 yards ... and that's just the club, not the ball ...

What's yours? I saw Greg Norman hit well over 400 yards at Congressional in 1986 in person. Let's not act like Tiger is superhuman.

You don't think that with today's technology Nicklaus wouldn't have been longer? Then look at his accuracy stats and GIR. I'm not sure there's been a golfer as long or accurate. JMO of course.

None of that is due to the field being weak?

He left out a bunch of players with 2 or 3 majors.

Nicklaus is more accurate for sure. Driver accuracy has always been the weakest part of Tiger's game.
