would this team want to compete in two years?

Also, I'd take Jeter all day long there, but what does that prove?

the other guy did just a minute ago actually. In terms of elite OBP (you know, the thing that measures your claim)...he's not all that great. He is however good at getting on base by hitting singles.

Ichiro is NOT overated. BUT Some on here think he is. Carew was overated??? His job was to get on base for others to knock him in.

I saw a clip one time where several MLB players said that if Ichiro entered the home run derby, he'd win it running away.

Exactly, he's been top 20 once since 2005 ( I THINK).

all I said was GETTING ON BASE. Not stealing, not being driven in...just GETTING ON BASE.

How in the frick would picking Jeter prove Ichiro isn't overrated?

Would you say Ichiro is one of the top 10 all around hitters in baseball?

I personally don't think Ichiro is an overrated hitter.

But there is definitely a case you could make there. And as the blog points out, the guy making the argument did a horrible job of making a case, because none of his points are relevant to Ichiro's actual ability to hit.

Ichiro's career is very similiar to Jackie Robinsons. Both spent a ton of their prime years in leagues other than the MLB. And both played a style of ball that hadnt been seen in the MLB for a while.
And Ichiro, like Robinson, when its all said in done will be considered one of the top 100 players of all timo imo.

Despite his great averages, he has only had an OPB over .400 once in his career. He has never had a SLG over .470.

Yet, he's probably considered one of the greatest hitters of all time. For some perspective, at age 40 in 2004, Barry Bonds had an OBP of .609. And slugged .812.

Not even close. Jackie Robinson drew a ton of walks and could hit for power as well. Robinson also played second base where the standards for hitting is a lot lower than a corner OF.
