Him signing that one-day contract today made me think of this.

Bored and curious what the overall opinion is on this?

Personally think he is but understand if you don’t.

Personally? Yes, he was one of the most dangerous players on the field when he was in his prime. I think he's a litmus test of how they will handle "Special Team Aces" in the upcoming years.

Like Don Beebe or Dante Hall.

Special team maestros.

The Hall seems to hate special team heroes, it took them forty years to elect Ray Guy.

They like the everydown player who makes a difference every play.

Gut-feeling...Hester gets in 30 years from now by a Veterans committee.

For what? Returning kicks?

You don't get the HOF for participating in 5 plays per game unless you are the best at it for at least 15 years or more.

Yes, but not first-ballot, primarily special teamers don't get in initially anyway and he was only all-pro great for 5 seasons doesn't have the longevity like a Brian Mitchell had, when you don't occupy a offense/defense position in a major way those impediments and critiques can hurt you in the HOF ballot room, they make a difference

I would argue he was for at least a decade.

sort of a weird timeframe requirement considering thats almost 5x the average lifespan of nfl players

His records will stand forever since they will eliminate the KO and PR very soon

I think he’ll get in eventually.

No, IMHO, but it’s partly due to the structure of the current HOF and who gets recognized.

Special teams guys generally get the shaft.

Hester is unquestionably one of the best return men of all time but, unlike a Deion Sanders, he rarely if ever made an impact between first and third down.

Given the backlog of players to reach the HOF from glory positions like QB, WR, and RB, it’s doubtful that a guy whose impact was principally on special teams gets recognized anytime soon.
