Yes, but where the javelin lands and whether or not the person stepped on the foul line is not exactly subjective.

Some guy almost bowled a 300 yesterday, but couldn't get the last strike so he finished with a 299.

His opponent bowled a 100. The worst score for a nationally televised bowling match ever.

There's a number of fouls in horse racing, like blocking other horses, that are subjective.

There's also post race blood analysis. My wife does some of those in the lab.

Tennis. Thanks to the hawk-eye replay system the officials don't have enough influence to actually alter the outcome of a match.

Come on.

It's just at the pro level, and even then each player only has a certain amount of challenges.

Plus, if you look at the AO, many of the courts don't even have the replay systems installed.

How about the bitch ref who called the foot fault on Serena?

Officials still mean a lot in tennis.

Officials still have an impact, but the largest, most meaningful matches are decided solely on the ability of the players. Compared to the more popular American sports the impact of officiating is practically zero.

Especially in shot put they have some of the most strenous officiating in track and field

And they are very rarely used up. If you challange three times and lose them all in a set, then there is no room to bitch

In big matches now, the only truly subjective calls are foot faults and conduct violations, both of which are excedingly rare

Only in the big matches on the pro level.

I don't see how that makes the sport of tennis as a whole not very affected by officiating.
