Some of the most talented athletes in the US never even get to college because they get caught up with the wrong crowds, or get someone pregnant or otherwise get derailed. Yeah I think he deserves some credit for his childrens' trajectory.

ETA: I honestly don't think that's what you meant when you said "he got this far." He raised his kids right so why should we doubt his ability to start a shoe company? I think you were referencing his business ability.
