Great, the end zone is now 35 yards. Can't kick deep and can't kick short.

Soon CFB will just become OT rules.

This is a microaggression against kickers that work so hard to learn how to kick so they can pin a team close to its goal line.

How many actual injuries occur on kickoffs?

And if they really want to discourage kick returns, they should make it so a kickoff that lands in or goes through the end zone puts the ball at the 20. That encourages teams to kick deep.

If the returner catches it on the fly and downs it in the end zone, bring it out to the 25. That discourages running out of the end zone.

Yeah, but how often does someone field a kick from outside the end zone and only make it to the 10? I don’t think this will change anything. Coaches will still trust their return scheme to be effective enough to get them to the 25 if a kick is fielded in the field of play. No one is going to spend time on installing a return if they’re going to just practice fair catching the ball...MAYBE on a kick fielded inside the 5, but still don’t really see that

I know.

I'm just saying the motive is to have as few kickoff returns as possible.

If a touchback is always the 25, teams will try to kick short.

If it's always the 20, teams will try to run it out.

What I suggested would encourage one team to kick deep and the other team to try to catch it and down it.
