Why be surprised???

Lovie isn't a good coach. He reached a SB with a great D and awful O. I don't know why anyone would hire him, esp a college program.

The Bears scored the same number of points as the Colts that year.

Except in the Super Bowl.

I think people had underestimated how little talent was on that team.

Mike White took them to the Rose Bowl back in the 80s. But it is understandable why the suck...the facilities suck and Champaign Urbana weather is donkies.

The weather at all B1G schools sucks. That may be an argument for them against the SEC or PAC, but not in their own conference.

Seems like majority of Illinois talent either ends up in Wisky, Ohio State, Michigan, or Sparty. Only athletes want to go to Champaign are golfers (because of Mike Small gets them to the PGA) and men's gymnastics. Alumni Stadium is blah and their training facilities are lagging. Besides the bars, Champaign blows.
