Democrats also have a much higher floor of people that will vote democrat no matter what every single election.
Those numbers aren't telling the story you think it is. Republicans have needed to make systemic changes for years, and Trump may have actually done it. With the electoral college the way it is, Republicans just need to get around a tie in the popular vote to consistently win most elections.
2024 was a catastrophically bad election for democrats. If Trump's presidency is perceived as a success, the trend will only continue.
