Xavi is very very good, and plays more than Iniesta. But if this is personal preference, I take Iniesta, Lampard sucks though.

Iniesta is good, but I'd find myself hard pressed to take him over Xavi, and Fabregas. Iniesta's possession play might be superior, as he hardly loses the ball, I don't think he has the vision of some other CM's.

I think that Xavi and Gerard are definitely better than Iniesta. I would rate Iniesta above Lampard, but I really don't like the way Lampard turns and shoots so much. He seems to pick some of the most inopportune times to get trigger happy.

However, I would pick all of those guys over Fabregas.

I would take a center midfield of Iniesta and Xavi over another combo currently in existence right now. Those crafty little frickers run nonstop, play great first-touch, and it is almost impossible to strip them of the ball.

FWIW, Gerrard had 9 assists and Lampard had 10 assists this past season, while Iniesta had 8.

For comparison, Xavi, the other center mid for Barcelona, had 20.

If you go back in the thread, this has more or less been my argument the whole time.

While I agree that Lampard is one of the top center mids...I sense bias on your part. Your thoughts?

The thing I value the most about central midfielders is holding on to the ball, I played center mid and my coach drilled into my head to never lose the ball. Basically Iniesta is the posterchild for how I was taught to play soccer. I would definitely take him over Fabregas but I can see taking Xavi.. having Xavi and Iniesta on the same team probably isn't fair.

Lampard is good.

He just catches hell for 1) playing for Chelsea 2) taking a lot of shots and 3) being kinda fat.

He has the benefit of having Drogba and Anelka playing in front, who use pace and horizontal runs to open up space for Lampard in the middle. You'll probably recall countless goals where he arrived late and knocked in easy one timers from the center 18 area. Not terribly skillful or novel, but damned efficient.

Why is that? I admit his game isn't very strong defensively, but his distribution is world class.

I guess an even better debate would be, would you rather start your team with Messi, Ronaldo, or Kaka.

Me personally, I'd take Messi.

this is laughable too.. you learned to play soccer in the fricking states dude. iniesta doesnt start for barca or team spain so how the frick could he be better than xavi or fabregas? maybe this season will change my mind but until he sees more pt he is not on of the top midfielders in spain sorry.

I've never liked Lampard, I knew people who overhyped him and I think it made me hate him. I am completely biased in any argument involving him, I won't apologize for it either. He isn't as good as Iniesta though.

Messi...and it's really a no brainer because he's the youngest one and the best one of them all.

Worthless argument...next quetion.
