re: IF any other athlete says what Palmer said, he would be crucified

SS wrote a horrible statement, and his attempt to compare Sprewell and Palmer was asinine.
Edit: Others would be labeled as "selfish" players for demanding a trade as Palmer did earlier. It's safe to say that most other players would have been attacked by most posters here with a statement that he'd rather retire than play for the Bengals. When you add to that the claim that he brought up how wealthy he is, I think that many here would have attacked other players for that.
Granted, I'm not calling for an attack on Palmer. Hell, I like what he's doing by standing up to management. I just wish that people would apply the same standards to all athletes when they speak, instead of selectively bashing some but not others.

No he said "I WILL play for love of the game, not I'll retire." No, He'll get traded and negotiate for the biggest contract he can get!
He just said if he plays it will be because he loves football, not because he needs money. That doesn't mean he is going to play for free, just that he isn't in a position to have to play to keep a roof over his family's head. He also said if the Bengals won't trade him he will just retire. But it's cool to overlook those facts because they don't support your ridiculous argument. If you want to bitch about a football player being a greedy piece of shite then start a thread about Albert Haynesworth.

i think that's good that some sports star is living a lifestyle where he can live comfortably the rest of his life and not worry about spending more than what he brings in

More of them do that than you think...

Then they should learn to read a little more carefully. One, he's not merely saying "he's fine financially." He went out of his way to let people know that he had 80 mil in the bank. Letting somone know just how much you have in the bank = bragging douchebag. Number 2, by saying something asinine like "I will play for love of the game" he is trying to make it sem like his motives for wanting to get traded will have nothing to do with money. Guess what? I bet if he gets traded he will try to get every dime he can. So he's not just a douchebag, he's a lying douchebag. I probably would have taken it easier on him if he would have said something that wasn't such a douchebag statement like, "At this point, it will probably be better for all parties involved if I went to another team. I would be willing to do so for less money because money is not the only thing that informs my career decisions." Instead, he chose douchebag route.

I think Carson Palmer fricked your mother.
In the arse.
In the arse.

Not really. I give two shits about the NFL for the most part.

OF course he did. What an original and thoroughly funny insult. Did you come up with that on your own? I mean, did you think of that and say, "Man, that insult is both ORIGINAL and FUNNY! There's no way it has not been overused by internet people everywhere for the last decade! That would be the PERFECT insult to a random guy I've never met who thinks a quarterback sounded like a douchebag! I MUST use that insult!"
Is that how your thought process went on that one?

Of course, because whether I frequently watch the NFL has EVERYTHING to do with my possible opinion that many athletes in general are spoiled douchebags!

Remove Palmer: are you against athletes in general demanding trades?
IMO, if they don't want to play for a particular franchise then that's their prerogative. Same for you and me if we don't want to work for a particular company. We just have the option to quit and go work somewhere else in the same profession.

I didn't generalize. I said "many" not "Most."

No, but there are douchebag and non-douchebag ways to go about everything

Were did I say it wasn't? Please enlighten me.

Yes but most of us don't insult our boss on the way out. I even gave an example of how he could get THE SAME POINT across without sounding like a raging douchebag. OR did you not read that part?

Do you think he probably asked to be traded "in house" first or do you think he just went directly to his twitter and said "F this place, I want out. I'm a baller and I deserve to be on a winning team, and I don't even care if I get paid or not b/c I'm already rich as hell(this is what you heard)"?
Posted on 3/2/11 at 2:09 pm to GeauxTigersLee
I don't really care if Palmer wants out of Cincy. He's no more relevant in the game than Todd Collins is right now. This is a no-win situation for Cincy either way they deal with it. He's badly overpaid right now but if he gets a new contract I DOUBT he'll see half of that offered.

Carmelo Anthony and Tony Gonzalez are a few players who weren't criticised for demanding a trade. I don't remember Julius Peppers or Roy Oswalt getting criticised either.
Ochocinco did because imo many didn't know if it was another "stunt". When you have too many on or off the field issues, then you're going to bring wanted and unwanted attention to yourself. Same for Lebron James. I don't think he would have had quite the backlash if he hadn't done "The Decision".

You know what else is rational? Inferring preprogrammed behavior based on a response to ONE athlete. Thank you you for being a paragon of rational enlightenment!

His "i have $80M in the bank" rank is just as bad as Latrell Sprewells "how am i supposed to feed my kids" tirade. LS got crucified, and palmer is a saint and a victim of his situation in Cincy.
lulz
all that statement showed was that he isnt an idiot and wont be broke in 5 years unlike 80% or so of other professional athletes.

but u just said that u think many athletes are douchebags, thus the inference that your hatred is pre programmed
also, do u really think he didn't ask to be traded "in house" first?
