They played 2 west teams. Back then, outside of LSU, the power was in the East. Uga, UF, and Tennessee we’re the powerhouses

They waxed Auburn in 2003, but we fell so far short of expectations that season that it almost got Tuberville fired in favor of Petrino and it embedded Hugh Nall and Steve Ensminger in the minds of Auburn fans everywhere as disasters at OC.
I wasn't paying attention closely to CFB in 2002, but I recall Auburn fans feeling as though we should have beaten USC that year.
