Especially weights. How well would that drop roll work?

Dempsey would have been a beast. Huge part of boxing is 'heart'. He had it.

As to the roll and drop, Tyson used a similar move in some of his KOs. Like at 1:10 of the video.

Here's a short video of Tyson doing Dempsey Roll training. Dempsey was an idol of Tyson's. He studied Dempsey's film for years.

Today's heavyweight division is full of really big guys that tip the scales in the 250+lb. range and many stand 6 ft. 4 in. or better, so he'd be way undersized in that division.

Dempsey fought most of his career between the mid to upper 180's and topped out around 200 lbs.

He did have a good reach at 77 inches for a guy who stood 6 ft. 1 in. tall.

As much as I think Dempsey was a great heavyweight in his time, he just doesn't have the size to be effective in today's division of fighters.

That's why he threw in the modern nutrition and training. He could probably add 20-30 pounds of muscle and compete in today's world.

With modern nutrition and training, Dempsey could easily carry 225 at 6'1" and be shredded.

He would do better losing a couple pounds and staying in the Cruiserweight Division and he'd destroy them.

Take this with a grain of salt because I know absolutely dick about boxing technique. Just watching the Dempsy roll & drop step technique from a few videos of him fighting, he was extremely aggressive, quick, powerful, and effective with his punches using his own technique. I realize with the current size and reach of today's HW division, it would be extremely difficult. But just watching the way he fights, and that roll and drop step, he could really do some damage given the current nutrition and training.

Tyson is shorter and pre-Don-King Tyson would dominate today's heavyweight division.

Dempsey was Tyson's idol.

And agree, Dempsey would have to develop strength and conditioning similar to Tyson's.

He would be a devastating heavyweight champion.

Now.

Then.

At any time.

He was an aggressive beast.

Dempsey was 6' 1? and fought at a weight of 190 lbs. Can you imagine seeing him fight against a 6'9" 260 lb giant who can move like a middleweight (Tyson Fury)? It would not be pretty.

Could you imagine Mike Tyson, in his prime, fighting Tyson Fury? Mike is 5' 10", and Mike would F him up.

Add 25 or more lbs of muscle and he would be lethal today in the heavyweight division. No money or prestige in cruiserweight division.

That pressing style would've given Ali fits.

Frazier was a short guy too.

For years I heard that Tyson was a product of marketing and tomato cans as opponents. It seems in the past 3 years or so I’ve seen more people
Coming out saying Tyson was a phenomenal boxer, all world, all time, before Don King got involved.

There's not a shred of doubt with that statement. When he was with Cus and his crew he had his head screwed on straight, trained properly, had good folks around him keeping his head on the prize. How else could a 20 yr. old do so well in such a short time to capture the premier boxing title of Heavyweight Champion of the World.

He got with Don King and things started to go south. Just look how he got beat by Buster Douglas in Tokyo as a 40/1 favorite. Lack of focus, training, taking an opponent seriously, etc. led to that loss. No doubt in my mind if Tyson would have been in top shape and focused for that fight, he would have won easily.
