That’s also a way of asking what I asked. Both ways are correct. Stick to being a troll, at least then you have culpable deniability of being a total retard

Takuma Sato is an IndyCar driver (2 time winner of the Indy 500). When he started in 2010, you could barely understand anything he said, and he often used an interpreter.

It was impressive to see how much his English improved each year. Now, he probably speaks better English than the average poster on this board. It takes time.

Emerson Fittipaldi speaks five languages.
He said once that Italian was his favorite language, French the most romantic, but, for cursing, there was nothing like English.

I don’t know why these guys use interpreters for as long as they do because they clearly don’t need to. Ichiro is a great example of this. He clearly didn’t need an interpreter but used one for years.

I wonder if it’s just a way to keep a friend around, if they’re bored and don’t have a strong network.

Yes. The CBA requires MLB teams to provide an interpreter for any non native English speaking player and Ichiro used his friend as his interpreter for that reason.

Do you think most Americans that go to Japan or Korea to play, are speaking those languages fluently in a few years? Probably not.

None. They learn a few phrases and get praise and applause for it.
