How far are we from the NFL becoming a "Touch" League?

I don't think we are more than ten years away.

If kickoffs get banned, I think we may be 5 years off.

it will continue to get "safer" until people stop consuming the product, then it will return to a normal game

edit: I mean as long as it is taking cash hand over fist and is king of American sports, why shouldn't they continue to make it safer [minimize liability]. I think you "fanatics" forget this is a business.

Back in the 80's as a kid, I remember reading a Buzz Beamer comic in SI Kids that showed the past iterations of safety equipment in football, and then humorously showed what the future of football would look like. The final frame of the comic showed a big robot looking football player, and inside of it was a scrawny skinny man.

It might end up being prophetic.

I think we'll just start seeing players having to sign off on assuming all risks. Kinda like an informed consent you have to sign for medical procedures.

Go play a full game on one side of the ball in an NFL game and see how you feel at the end of the game and then tell me it's a touch league, brother.

Some of us, no joke, would actually not make it out alive if we played an NFL game, and we're calling it a touch league?

I could see myself watching robot football. Maybe FOX is foreshadowing it too:

Could open the door for another league if it keeps moving in this direction. Only problem is only D players are complaining

for now.

When people stop going and watching, it will hit them in the pocketbook.

Not that people are on the verge of bailing on the NFL, but if the trend continues they will.

Things will really get interesting the first time a player is killed on the field on national tv. I could see congress getting involved, lawsuits.

In a way, as big and fast as the players are, I'm shocked it hasn't happened already

You know what they need to do? Instead of all this pussyfooting around, they should just make that missile tackle bullshite these assclowns try a 15 yard penalty.

Y'all know the move, the infamous dive head first at the ballcarrier and don't use the arms to wrap up because I want the kill shot type of maneuver. Call it something embarrassing, like "inferior tackle technique" or "dolphin diving". More than likely they would call it "spearing".

Not going to lie. While I was in New Zealand I watched about 15-20 rugby matches over the past month and enjoyed the HELL out of them. Men being men and tackling and laying other guys out. Made me miss the days when players could do that in the NFL.
