Heard somthing interesting on radio tonight

I know this might supposed to be on another board but figured I could get some answers better here. Local radio in Mobile broadcasting the scheduled baseball game between South Alabama and ULL. When announcing the starting lineups, radio guy says, "and we are informed that it is no longer Louisiana at Lafayette or Louisiana Lafayette, it is just Louisiana."
I went to their own website, which still lists Louisiana Lafayette.
University site says Louisiana Lafayette
Athletics site also says at Lafayette
Is this another one of their ploys to self proclaim them as "The" University of Louisiana? Or is there an official name change somewhere????

well supposedly USA and ULL are pretty heated rivals so it could just be the radio guy's dislike of ULL.

Major league, massive, incredible, huge, never ending, unstoppable penis envy of LSU is what it is.

No, the radio guy implied that the UL(L) people told him that the Lafayette was dropped, and the correct name is University of Louisiana.

The people in Laughayette are delusional. The name includes the "At Lafayette" by state LAW, regardless of what they want to say in Laughayette.

Oh. Well then thats typical. I doubt it has anything to do with the university itself but everything to do with their fans and broadcasters.

It's quite confusing, really. They can't remember it either. That was actually a huge reason for the change to begin with. USL alumni couldn't remember the three letter acronym.

really not a big deal if they don't add the UL....LSU doesn't add their full name so it's not a big deal

They pulled this crap during basketball season when they came to LSU. Their officials ask other schools to call them Louisiana, but it is state law that they are Louisiana at Lafayette.
If they don't want to be called Louisiana at Lafayette, then I say all other schools should just put USL on the scoreboard and call them that on their radio broadcasts. What are they gonna do, not play the game?

It's definitely penis envy. It's quite humorous actually.
I think it's funny that ULL isn't trying to become the flagship university by any real measurement or accomplishment, but instead would rather just change its name and pretend it is so.
The truth is, whatever ULL is called, it's still the school with no real academic status to speak of, no real fan support, zero accomplishment in football or basketball, with its dwindling fan support hanging on to a single baseball world series appearance almost 10 years ago.
The current state of affairs at ULL athletically is pathetic. The crown jewel of the athletic dept. (baseball team) currently has an RPI of 99 and was swept recently by ULM.
No matter how much you want it to, a name won't change that.
