Madison Square Garden: New York Rangers fan banned for life after 'abhorrent assault' of Tampa Bay Lightning supporter
Madison Square Garden says it has banned a New York Rangers fan for life after he was seen punching a Tampa Bay Lightning fan in the face following Thursday's Game 5.
According to video posted on social media, the Rangers fan turned and punched the Lightning fan, sending the person to the ground, as they were walking through the concourse after Tampa Bay's 3-1 win. The assailant appeared to leave the area while other people attended to the fan who got attacked.
A Madison Square Garden statement Friday called the incident an "abhorrent assault," saying the Rangers fan also attacked a second person who tried to intervene.
"We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as this is now a criminal matter. The assailant will also be banned from The Garden and all other MSG venues for life," MSG said in its statement. "All guests -- no matter what team they support -- should feel safe and respected in The Garden. This has and always will be our policy."
Police confirmed to multiple outlets that a 29-year-old Staten Island man had been arrested on two counts of assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. There had been an interaction between the Rangers and Lightning fans before the punch was thrown, police said.
Madison Square Garden said the two victims "received appropriate medical care." According to police, the Lightning fan was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition and the intervening fan declined treatment.
Good.

You can shake your head all you want but I have seen some bad violent shite at sporting events. I will never say a word period at an away game. Way too many crazies around
I agree w/every word of this. But dude who I was shaking my head at seemed to be bragging about it.

Still salty over that 24-game losing streak, huh?
Let's be clear: I didn't "sucker punch" anybody. I warned the guy multiple times, he didn't heed the warnings, and he got slapped. It wasn't a sneak attack. He saw it coming. There was just nothing he could do about it at that point. I'm not bragging. Not ridiculing. Just saying that talking shite in front of the other team's fans - especially after being asked to stop multiple times - is risky.

its funny because everyone in the thread is saying "yeah you have to be careful talking trash around opposing fans because you never know there's dummies out there" and you tell a story where you're the dummy. and the way you tell it like you had to hit him to teach him a lesson about people like yourself.

Admittedly, I am. I'm the most laid-back, patient person you'll ever find. But when someone purposely tries to antagonize or intimidate me - especially after I've asked multiple times for them to stop - then yes, I become a "dummy." In retrospect, would I do the same thing again, if the situation presented itself? Yes I would.

Nothing about that gay little story about you slapping someone is true and you're clearly a total pussy for thinking it would impress anyone

There are very few situations where a man slapping another man isn't a bitch move. "he made fun of my team too much" is not one of those situations. the fact that he was such a pussy that he cried instead of trying to lay you out only makes you seem worse. Stop letting betas provoke you over your sorry-arse football team

Oh, it's 100% true, and I'm not trying to impress anybody. Just saying that if you want to talk shite, then yes, there are people like me who will retaliate. I tried to warn the guy - heck, I even gave him multiple warnings. He got what was coming. Had he just had some friendly jabs back and forth, that's fine. He took it far and beyond that, and made it personal. frick him.

says the SMU fan
Nebraska won 3 NCs during that era and competed for multiple others
I guarantee that there are plenty of LSU fans here, who, if a Bama or Florida or A&M fan was running their mouth and rubbing it in and and not stopping, would lay the guy out

Was this inside MSG still?
Yes. It looked like the corridor that connects the main entrance on 7th ave to the part where the actual arena sitting/rink is located.
In addition to the arena where the Rangers and Knicks play, there's the Hulu Theater which can fit between 2000-5000 people for events like concerts, etc.
