Has any MLB team ever won 41 games before June 1st?

The Braves have a chance to make MLB history today. Based on my research, the 2026 Braves are just the fifth team ever to reach 40 wins before June 1, but no team has ever reached 41 before June. Even more impressive, three of the previous four teams that hit 40 wins before June 1 went on to win the World Series that same year.

1902 Pittsburgh Pirates: Hit 41 wins on May 31 (41-9).

1984 Detroit Tigers: Started the year 35-5 and had 41 wins before June (41-5)

Also, it’s kind of a pointless stat unless all teams play the same number of games before June

Winning % is probably a better metric IMO

I'm sure it's happened a few times. They're at .678, I seem to recall a few teams with winning percentages between there and .700

Probably the $billion Dodgers

Plus the regular season didn't start in March for most of MLB history. The Braves played five games in March this year.

The season starts two weeks earlier than it used to. As said winning percentage would be a better gauge. An example: the 1990 Reds were 31-12 on May 31 for a .714 winning percentage. The season was delayed that year because of a lockout during Spring Training. That team was 40-20 after 60 games just like the Braves. However, that happened in June 19. The Braves are having a really good season, but nothing extra special.

Ugh, reminds me of the 2001 Mariners. They were 40-12 before June but of course didn't even make it to the WS. Then took about 20 years to get back to the playoffs. Hopefully won't be another 20 for another chance at WS.

Poor Seattle fans. They were .711 before August, .713 before October.

2001 Mariners had a higher win% .716 than the GOAT 1927 Yankees .714 and well...

Couldn't beat the Yankees. 2001 Mariners are probably the #1 Sure Thing on paper based on their season, records set and unflappable consistency... Which then fell apart in the Playoffs.
