If we’re narrowing it down to one play, this would be it for me. Still the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever seen.

Over 235,000 MLB games have been played and only 24 of those have been perfect.
I nominate Dallas Braden’s perfect game on Mother’s Day following the passing of his grandmother that raised him.
The last perfect game was pretty crazy when in 2023 Domingo German went 27 up 27 down throwing only 99 pitches. This comes after a domestic violence suspension in 2019 and missing all of 2020, and a sticky substance suspension weeks before his perfect game. Bro didn’t even finish the season after getting drunk, trashing the clubhouse, then checking into rehab. Wild.

Including postseason, ~238,000 have been played. With only 24 of those having ever been perfect games, that means the chance of one ever being thrown is 0.00010084%.
If you narrow it down to the ~500,000+ high school players playing baseball in the US and realize that maybe, at best, 0.5% of them will ever be drafted, the odds of any person ever throwing a perfect game makes that one of the most statistically ridiculous feats imaginable.

Don Larsen's perfect game in game 5 of the 1956 WS, he was a journeyman pitcher who is the only one to be perfect in the WS.
1983 NC St, they had to win the ACC tournament to even get in, then went on a run and won it all
Super Bowl XLII, NE was unbeaten while the Giants were only 10-6 during the regular season
Indiana football 2025

Dock Ellis thinking he was starter the game tomorrow, decided to take acid after lunch the day he actually pitched.

Good friend of mine wrote an article about this that preceded the video below. Enjoy: LINK

Rich Strike winning the Derby as the longest shot, in the fashion that he did just walking down the favorites in the final furlong, probably tops it for me. I still get goosebumps when I watch that race. The announcer had a great call too
UMBC beating Virginia by 20 points to be the first 16 over 1 ever is up there for me if we're talking a game in traditional sports

Leicester City winning the Premier League
Imagine if some AA ball team from bum-frick nowhere won the World Series, this is basically what happened here.

Using Capology estimates for Leicester City’s 2015/16 squad, Jamie Vardy is listed on a weekly wage of £70,000, making him the Foxes’ top earner during that historic campaign

NC State winning the 83 NCAA Tourney has to be up there.
Had to win every game in the ACC tournament just to get in the field, then won it all by beating a team no one in America thought they could beat. They probably could have played Houston 10 more times and not come close to winning. But, they did it when it counted.

The US hockey in 1980 would register as well.
To me, it's this. If you're not a hockey fan, it's hard to explain how monumental the victory over the Soviets was.
In the 70s, the Red Army team just ran roughshod over every other nation in international play. They were an absolute machine, with the greatest goaltender of all-time in Vlad Tretiak. The Canadians couldn't keep up with them, getting embarrassed often.
Imagine if a handful of NCAA basketball players, who weren't even all-stars, or even all-conference, beat the 1992 USA Dream Team. It's not far from that.
And my favorite piece of lore is that the USSR/USA game wasn't the gold medal. It was before that. The US had to play Finland two days later. Herb Brooks walked into the dressing room before that game, and delivered the most badass sports speech of all time.
"If you lose this game today, you'll take it to your graves. " He walked out, walked back in, and said, "To your fricking graves." That was it.
