how has no one mentioned namath yet? Knee injury his junior year really cut down on his speed and quickness. most of his career in the league was played on bad knees.

Yeah...it's a shame we didn't get to see a rematch at the 1976 Games.

Because we saw the best of him. In 1967 he passed for over 4,000 yards. He won a sb in 1969. He had the misfourtune of playing on bad teams most of his career.

And your statement that he only had one good game vs AU is ridiculous

LINK

His game against MSU was one of the most dominant performances I've ever seen. It's not often that a RB can be that much of a difference maker in a game.

Bob Feller- leads the AL in wins, strikeouts, innings for 3 years in a row.

Misses 4 seasons to the WWII, comes back and strikes out 348. He would lead the league in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched the next two seasons.

Ali -- He was still improving in 1967. When he came back in 1971 he had lost speed that he was never able to regain.
This. It's just incredible that he's the greatest heavyweight of all time and missed 4 years of his prime. Not just any 4 years, but a boxer's peak years.

by that logic you saw the best of ali, mantle and a few others named here.

i dont think namath did what he could have done had his knees not gone out.

OK most in here are talking about athletes that really DID something. I am not gonna argue with you about Collins. He was a refreshing thing for LSU at THAT time. AND YES the NFL gave him a chance. I will NOT add STUPID to any name in this thread. FACT. The DUDE was stupid.

CORRECT. BUT IF Collins wasn't stupid he could have been the BEST EVER. He had the talent. FACT. BUT there are NO other athletes in this thread that did STUPID the way Collins did. Another FACT.

Speaking of hockey, I think Eric Lindros is a good candidate for this thread. Hopefully Sidney Crosby doesn't suffer the same fate.

He sure did. This what I am talking about. Very SAD. Just enjoying himself and has a career ending injury. THIS IS SAD.

Yeah, but we saw him at his peak ('97). He wasn't replicating that ever again.
