I hate these greedy frickers. I am pretty sure the $14M that he passed on this year could have lasted him the rest of his life.

I am in my late 40's and and my earnings for my entire lifetime are less than $1.5 million, and I have gotten along pretty well. So frick a dude "trying to get his".

God forbid people go after their proper value or try to get as much money as possible in a career that lasts on average 3 years and liquifies your brain for the most part post playing days

I would not even remotely consider giving him a long term deal for several reasons:

1. Do we actually know if he's that good or is it the Steelers system? They didn't skip a beat with James Conner.

2. Bell has repeatedly proven that he will not show up for work if he doesn't get his way. He has held out multiple times, not to mention he has been previously suspended.

3. I would never give a long term deal to a RB in general. Especially not one in his late 20s.

1. Preach

2. $14MM/year is more than his worth

Uhh you might wanna recheck those numbers

No he’s shown he doesn’t want to play under the franchise tag that eliminates a year of his prime with no job security and puts another 400-500 touches on his mileage without a long term commitment.

That’s fair. Also kind of proves his point about sitting out in order to get a long term deal in free agency.

More than his 1 year value maybe.

I’d say his career value is much higher than that given his production future and past. And that’s what holding out is about, getting what you deserve while you still can. This dude wants him to take that 14 mil and thinks he should work for free after that

I mean imagine negotiating 1/3 or 1/2 of your entire careers salary on one contract.

Now imagine that you are forced to take a 1 year contract before you can fairly negotiate that number and at any time during that year you can harm yourself and completely tank that value going into that negation for pretty much your entire career.

2017 saw them average 5.8 yards per play.

It jumped to 6.1 without Bell.

2017 saw them rush for 3.8 yards per attempt.

That jumped to 4.2 without Le'Veon Bell.

I’d say that has more to do with their uptick in passing attempts and the emergence of JuJu

As far as production and ability goes, Bell blows Conner out of the water in running and catching passes out of the backfield.

I know you love your systems tho

You conveniently left out the part about being suspended before, and judging by the pic of his joint collection, he could easily get suspended again for much longer as a repeat offender.

Damn.

So if he would have accepted and played under the tag last season they could have put him on it again?

I didn't know that was how it worked.

He would have been tagged at 20+ million if the Steelers put a franchise tag on him again. It's nowhere near as bad as he's making it sound.

The amount of the tag is pretty irrelevant to the point I was making

You don’t really have a point. In fact, you have been put in check at least four times in this thread.

I get the point you were making. He would have made 26.5 million in guaranteed money over the course of two seasons if he played last season, which would have been a record for a RB.

Hell, David Johnson got a 3 year/39 million deal with 30 guaranteed before last season.

Before that, Freeman had the RB record with a 5 year/41 million with 22 guaranteed.

And the argument that Steelers went with the "use him and dump him" strategy in 2017 because he had a career high in touches doesn't make sense considering the Steelers offered him a record contract after the season, and ended up tagging him again.

I'm all for a player trying to earn the most they can in their career. It might pay off for him, it might not. To act like he's been getting screwed over because of the tag is pretty funny.
