What do the Giants do if they get the #1 overall pick? They can't trade away Jones but at the same time, Williams is supposed to be this generational prospect so you can't pass him up. And if they keep both, they'll either have a $40 million/year player or the #1 overall pick on the bench with a roster full of holes.
You take Williams and figure it out. Don’t fall victim to the sunken cost fallacy. Either keep Jones for ‘24 and start him until Williams is ready—Williams could start Day 1, but do you want to put him behind a line that gave up 11 sacks in 1 game?—and move off him after ‘24, or move him after this year if possible.
I think a lot depends on how his contract is structured, though. Like the Saints signed Carr to a long-term deal, but they can get out of it after 2 years without it killing them. If there’s an “out” after ‘24 or ‘25, some team not ready for a full rebuild will take a chance on Jones like the Saints did with Carr. But the Giants are gonna have to “wear” it one way or another and just live with it. Whether that’s just getting out of his contract without getting anything substantial for him, having to eat a lot of dead cap money 1 year, or paying $40 million to their backup QB (who would likely be the best backup in the league, so there is that) for a year (or even 2). Or likely a combo.
But Daboll didn’t draft Jones (though he likely signed off of the contract extension), so he shouldn’t be married to him if he doesn’t think he’s the guy. The worst thing they can do is use the sunken cost fallacy to talk themselves into passing on a QB and taking a LT, thinking he can solve all their offensive issues if they don’t truly believe Jones is the guy. Can’t un-sign that contract. It’s over. Just can’t chase one bad decision with another.
But I’m a Saints fan and the Giants are in the NFC, so frick ‘em. Don’t care what they do. Trying to put myself in their shoes if the Saints are the ones who wind up picking toward the top of the draft with a chance to draft a QB. And with the way the past 2 weeks have gone and how deep this QB class is, it may not be at #1, but the Saints could very well find themselves in a very similar spot.

Just glad I can watch NFL games now and not have to hear Daniel Jones referred to as "Danny Dimes".

Daniel Jones went from getting sacks of money in the off season to just getting sacks.

Try to trade back and get multiple firsts or pro bowl caliber OL

His contract is team friendly. He’s only guaranteed $80MM of the 4yr/$160MM contract.
They can get out of it after next season. Even if he survives into the third year, no way he makes it to the fourth year of the deal. His cap hit is nearly $60 million in 2026, but the dead money is only around $10 million.
