The official diagnosis is that Kubiak suffered a TIA, or transient ischemic attack, which occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery for a short time and affects blood flow in the brain.

Damn that's scary. That's why his vitals were normal I guess.

That sounds a bit serious.

It's different from a full-blown stroke because the loss of bloodflow is temporary and unlikely to cause permanent damage. But it's not a good sign for the future.

I've had them. They are not fun, certainly not the first time. They have never manifested in a sudden fashion like Kubiak though, I don't think that's standard. For me they always start with numbing of one side of the body and gradual loss of cognitive function. First time it happened I thought I was going to die, I couldn't read simple English or speak coherently. Subsided within an hour.

"Mini-stroke" makes it sound worse than it is, it doesn't cause permanent damage (assuming it's not an actual stroke). It really just means you're at a higher risk of the real deal. They only happen to me about once a year, it doesn't really affect me other than give others an opportunity to converse with a temporary retard and give me more incentive to not be a fatass. More a nuisance than anything.

My GF's mom had a TIA last Thursday (her first one), she died Saturday night of a massive stroke.

That sucks to hear, condolences. I've got youth and a relatively healthy brain per MRIs, didn't mean to downplay that nothing comes of them.

You seem like a smart guy but I'll help you out anyway by providing a direct quote from the article:

Yes there are. They happen quite often. I've had patients get TIAs during therapy. Pretty scary stuff. As others have unfortunately pointed out they can can indicate increased risk for further more serious dangers.

Something similar happened to me when I had Viral Meningitis. My legs started going numb and it worked its way up to my face. I couldn't talk or anything. Thought for sure I was having a stroke and dying. ER doctor said it was a panic attack and sent me home. 4 days later I was back at the hospital in CCU. Was there for a week and they finally figured out what it was after a spinal tap.
