It's not about TCU being deserving or not. They got absolutely boatraced by Georgia in the CFP Final and the game got the worst ratings of any championship game in the 25 year BCS/CFP title game era. Disney and ESPN likely lost a ton of money on the game and they wanted to avoid a repeat of that at all costs.
