Clint Schafer

- clint sat to my left(next to me) in the 1k event in vegas 2 weeks ago..he is a nice guy and a good player..i would put him up against almost any live player, but i agree with malone121212..there are hundreds of players with the abilities of clint and beyond online..at every buy in level..(including me, and i play way smaller than the true online beasts)..

-one thing you have forgotten malone121212, is that clint s. actually plays some pretty big cash games..ive seen him play in the big 5-10,and sometimes even bigger games at harrahs...that gave me alot more respect for his game when i saw him doing that..i think he is pretty legit..also i think he uses that uber-tight image to pull of some pretty sneaky stuff in some pretty big spots..ive seen it with my own eyes...

If i could have one image to have as a poker player, this would be the one.

ETA: like Dan Harrington.

know exactly who he is. talked with him for a while in biloxi. he won an event before i got down there. i FTed 2 of the 3 tourneys i played while down there. Clint is a really good player. plays pretty straight forward. If he is the best tournament player you have ever seen, then obv you havent seen very many. I can name 3 players i know personally off the top of my head better than him. TK miles, jeremey Gaubert, matt graham. and by saying that im not taking anything away from clint. he is a great tourney player and has a great resume of cashes.

Ok i'm back for now. When I said Clint was the best I have ever seen I should have phrased better. Clint is a good friend of mine so I wanted to give him the utmost respect when speaking about him. I have played with Phil Ivey, John Juanda, J.C. Tran, Daniel Negranu, Phil Hellmuth, lived with Matt Brady for a few weeks durring the summer of 07 etc... so my post about Clint was just meant as flattery. That being said I think there are several players with his capeabilities however not many who have been able to accomplish what he has with no backer and his consistency in tournament play. Many players can hit a few tournaments here and there but Clint has made a living at this since I started playing the Circuit in 2004. I have met several guys who have hit a big tournament and faded off from the circuit, but Clint is one who has stuck around over the long haul. Is he better than some of the other guys I mentoned I have played against, I don't know but I don't think he is much worse if he is at all. After a while this game becomes routine so to argue that this guy is ton better than this guy when both are established pro's is silly.

I've played with Clint may times at that game. He also plays the 10-25 with Cub and a few of my other friends at Harrah's when they run the game. The thing that impresses me most about Clint is I don't think he has ever gone broke. for a grinder that is tough to do. The amount of time he has been playing and the limits he plays at make that really impressive to me. Everyone from time to time needs help from investors over the long haul but he never has. Always played his own money from what I know and always been successful

completely agree with everything you said. 110% agreement. a lot of people dont even realize that probably 80% of the tourney poker world is backed. thats why i have made respect for guys like clint who are 100% on their own. i could sit here and name you people who you never thought would be backed.

p.s. matt brady is a stud.
phil hellmuth is a donk. dudes game is so old schooled. his table image gets him all of his chips. people will dump them to him. my backer, busted 54th in last years main event, played with hellmuth for a long time. the stories he was telling me were unreal.

texas tiger22, i saw you were getting into insurance in houston. I am currently an insurance guy, so if you need any advice/questions i will be glad to help in anyway that I can. its a great business to be in if your with the right company.

Matt was a regular grinder back in 07. We met on tour in New orleans in 07 and had a bunch of friends in common. I had a place off Decatur and he was living with a friend of mine. I had 2 extra rooms at my apt so they stayed with me till the house they were renting for the second half of the WSOP was ready. He was always a very good player but not better than the other guys we were running with at the time IMO. I hadn't talked to him for a while before he won the Aruba. durring that trip he was staying with a very good friend of mine Gabriel Andrade who called me and told me about the win. it was good to see a kid who had grinded the game for a while hit one.

It's one of the things I was looking at. My fiance and I moved away from BR to start a new life. I want a family and kids which is something that is very hard to do as a professional poker player. She stuck with me for 3 years while I was playing cards for my job and I realized it was time to move on. I lived in Vegas for the entire WSOP in 06, 07, and 08. One thing I realized through that is there were three types of people there at that time. There were the guys who were there for 3 months grinding 2-5 and 5-10 cash games and playing the single table satellites day after day. There were the pro players who had their sponsership and could give a frick about the money they were winning and losing in the tournaments and side games cause it was almost like an unlimited supply. Then there were the guys who came to visit and had very successful jobs back home but played poker for fun. The third guy is who I wanted to be so I gave up cards for a living about 2 months ago. We moved to Houston and now I am exploring my options for a career. It is hard though cause my resume looks like crap since you can't really put poker under job description.

im in the same boat as clint..i just havent won as much, and don't play as big..(i have played in the same 2-5 and once in the same 5-10 game as him though..)ask him about me..i was sitting right next to him when he busted out of the 1k..he had ak and this donk slow rolled him after hitting an aj7 flop with his aj...

you me and malone(bl) know allthe same people..cub, tk, bj, clint, etc...malone and i are just a part of the younger(online and live) crew..which i think makes us very dangerous..

While i've never met Tyler I would recomend not getting to close to Cub. I won't get into everything on here but he is a bit of a shady character. We used to be good friends and still say hi when we see each other at tournaments but I wouldn't rely on him for much. He bails on obligations quite a bit and is basically just a hustler at the poker table.
