Earl F'n Weaver.
Read his book. It's one of the best books on baseball ever written. It's a shame he's simply remembered as a guy who baited umpires (which he was pretty awesome at), but he was years ahead of his time when it came to managing a team. The statistical revolution's father isn't Bill James, it's Earl Weaver.

Red Schoendist or something like that was pretty good, coached the Cardinals to a few world series wins, although I hated the fkn Cardinals.
