Churchill, Keeneland, and Turfway are my (now) home tracks. 10 mins, an hour, and 90 mins respectively. Eliis is , meh, but the money is pouring in. I wager on quality , albeit everywhere is having a quantity problem. I don't waste my time on 5k LA bred rats. If youre looking for both, Kentucky Downs is far superior than anyone else. However, the meet is 7 days. NY has become awful, not because of the weather, rather there are too many trainers entering multiple horses in each race. (Chad Brown on turf, especially.) Plus the jockey colony is garbage except for Saratoga.

Heard a rumor this morning that Louie Roussell would be interested in re-purchasing the FG, as it might be up for sale. He does have plenty money connections and political clout. We shall see. That would be awesome, if true. Definitely would keep the money in New Orleans.

It’s just timing of the legislature. Cdi are trying to negotiate a better deal and can’t blame them. Sounds like Louie rousell slapped them down yesterday though

Louisiana ain't backing down. The want the HHR machines, although its a state law to have video poker / slots, thanks to votes.

They’ll have to make sure to have good purses for their 3 year old series bc Churchill will probably pull points

Another very prominent and wealthy owner was trying to buy it in a group with him years ago but Churchill wouldn’t sell. That’s back when the whole place was practically falling down.

I 100% think Churchill is bluffing.

I know absolutely zero about how our gaming laws are written, but is there any way they can temporarily halt slots if Churchill refuses to accept racing dates next year? Because I can totally see them refusing to run and still raking in the slot money all winter. Aren’t those slots tied somehow to a certain number of racing dates?

I see I should have continued reading because that question was answered

Churchills asking price was very high cant remember the price though. Louie can get some investors to purchase it with no problem but i think the price was too high. We shall see

Actually our dumb HBPA and LSRC thought they could just install the HHR machines and that would be it. Truck stops filed a lawsuit and to get HHR machines they have to be voted on in each parish that you want to place them in. Just like they did with video poker.

No racing means no slots, no OTB's, no video poker. That's what i've been told and i'm pretty sure that's the law. So no racing means no slots. And yes they are bluffing because the know the rules.

Each track by law has to run 84 race dates per year. That figure can be negotiated each year when the racing commission approves the dates for each track. Louisiana Downs is only running 60 days this year for the T'Breds because they over paid the purses last year and to make it work this year they are only running 60 days.

Don't be surprised if Louisiana Downs is the track to shut down first in this state.

Which is a shame. I like LAD. I like both of their surfaces. It’s crazy to see it as a shell of what it once was. Hard to believe they ran a grade1 there.

I love that they have that big Fred Stone of Sunday Silence there.

Yep he sure did. Told them they sure got along well before HHR machines came around and that they had no problems with the profitability.

Boommmmmmmmmmmmm good job Louie.

Its not well managed there at LaD. They can only give out like 80-85K a day in purses. Pathetic.

I had a tiny bit of hope when it sold to the guy from Kentucky…

But that was silly of me.

its my opinion that fairgrounds books should be open to anyone to look at as well as every casino/racino in the state. with the licensing, favorable tax exemptions, taking money from the states citizens via gambling, etc.. if the fairgrounds needs more money via gambling they should have to open the books and show us why.

How does HHR already represent 46% of revenue? What did they do before HHR?

So they can funnel all of it to their stupid $100 million expansions at Churchill that get used for 3 days a year. Definitely doesn’t go back into the fg
