Agreed and I hope Haas doesn't suffer a sophomore slump. I think from 4-10 there's a lot of parity in the teams. Obviously the Mercs are the ones to beat with RBR and Ferrari fighting for second. After that, it's a jumbled mess in the mid-pack with a lot of good racing in that group. Maybe one or two of those teams can jump up and race with Red Bull & the Scuderia. But I don't see any of those guys threatening Mercedes up front unless they've somehow stepped on their unit with this new car.

Thanks for the testing update mountain. Also it appears Mercedes have caved and added a shark fin. I don't have a good pic, saw it on Snapchat.

They're testing both options. I don't think they've made up their mind which one to run yet. Could be that they'll run the fin on some tracks but not others.

I found some video: LINK
If you're not familiar with the track, this is the very end of the lap from turn 12 on through the chicane. The last turn you can see is the one leading back on to the front straight.

These are are the cars that were racing when I was a kid. I had a Hot Wheels almost exactly like this.
They used to show all the major races on regular TV back then, it was great. Then the gas shortage happened and racing was seen as wasteful.

Lotus 49? Those cars were a handful mostly thanks to primitive (by today's standards) tire technology and no aero.

Yea back then cornering skills and balls really separated the men from the boys.
Nowadays with the down-force to weight ratio and tire tech it's like watching slot cars. It's amazing.

Ferrari and Merc engines performed well. Renault and Honda not so much.

I'm impressed by the red cars so far. You never know if Merc had their engines turned up all the way or not but whatever the case, Ferrari are right there with them. And maybe their engines are dialed back too here in the early going. But I wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes came out tomorrow and beat everybody else by a full second.

As a Ferrari fan I can't wait until they get taken down a level.

Agreed. I like Mercedes just fine but I'd like to see some better competition at the front of the pack. I would prefer that it come from Ferrari but if it ends up being Red Bull or somebody else, I'm OK with that too.

Also how funny would it be if Bottas beats Hamilton this year?

The FIA has waded in on the ongoing suspension row, stating that teams must prove that their suspension's primary purpose is not for aerodynamic performance gains.

A statement has been sent out to all teams regarding the new technical directive, and if teams fail comply then they will be asked to remove their current suspension set-up.

The debate was first sparked when Ferrari sought clarification last month on the issue, amid rivals Mercedes and Red Bull using a 'trick' suspension system.

The FIA have now attempted to clear up the matter as they try to avoid a potential protest at the season opener in Australia.

The FIA picked out five key characteristics or components that it will deem non-compliant:

– Any system that changes how the car responds to body accelerations.

– No direct coupling between the ride height function and the braking system or the steering system.

– Right height control via self-levelling.

– Direct coupling between the role and heave parts of the suspension.

Everyone seems to think McLaren have built a good car (again) but the Honda engine looks like junk (again) -- so another lost season.

I can't understand how a company like Honda can keep getting it wrong.
