Dude was the next Penny Hardaway 12 months ago.

Pat Forde @ByPatForde
Emoni Bates to Eastern Michigan, per his Instagram. Not a lot of interest from high-major programs, from what I was told in recent weeks. Even some programs who had been linked to him had backed off. A remarkable turn of events for him.

Forde is a chode but Bates was long thought to be going to Louisville and Forde should be plugged in there.
Bates' dad has driven his son's career off a cliff and being back home might not be a good thing.

MSU dodged a bullet there but he had initially committed to them at first.

Just having a hard time coming to terms that someone born in 2004 is in college.

From what I heard his father is steering his recruiting. Apparently wanted to play PG at Louisville and Kenny Payne said no.

At least that is/was the rumor

Makes sense. They were trying to get that at Memphis. Poor Stan Heath might get run over with his dad constantly looming now.

Was the next Durant like two years ago. I think the comps and his style of play changed cause his scoring and shooting disappeared so he tried becoming more of a playmaker/point forward.

Sounds like the Patrick Baldwin Jr. situation.

Baldwin's dad just screwed him up trying to get a feel good story of the dad coaching the son going, and maybe trying to save his job, but he didn't over manage him. Bates has been all downhill since his dad made the phony prep school for him.

Bates may also just not be good.

He has a negative wingspan and had below average athleticism (24.5" vertical and really slow shuttle times) at a Memphis Pro Day last year.

I agree he isn't that great but I know his injury last year fricked him up badly. He wasn't the same player at all.

Had no idea he was still coaching, and when I looked that he had coached 8 years at South Florida after Arky.
